Job overview

About us

Aspire is an Alternative Provision spread over five sites in High Wycombe, Chesham and Aylesbury. Aspire provides 'outstanding' alternative educational provision and support for secondary age students who, for a variety of reasons, are unable to attend mainstream school. The Aspire Medical Provision supports those children and young people who are too unwell to attend their mainstream school. These students are referred by CAMHS or other medical professionals, with the support of their mainstream schools and/or the Local Authority. The Home Tuition Service is part of the Aspire Medical Provision and delivers education across Buckinghamshire. Our focus is to support young people to reach their potential and enable them to re-engage with, and maintain, their learning and ideally to reintegrate back into their mainstream school.

About the role

These are exciting times for education and Aspire is rising to the challenge and looking for qualified English or Maths teachers to join our Home Tuition Service. The Home Tuition Service supports those students who are referred as being medically unfit to attend school; this may be for a short-term period or, in some instances, the students may need longer term education at home. The Service operates in a number of ways – going to a child’s home and working on a 1:1 basis with the child; or/and working on a 1:1 or small group basis at an Aspire base or via remote learning.

About you

In many instances, the young person may have been out of education for some time and so home tutors need to be skilled in building trust and relationships and in finding different ways to engage a child with the learning. Students are referred from a range of settings, both at primary and secondary school level and tutors would need to be confident and up-to-date with their subject knowledge and pedagogy and be able to adapt that knowledge in order to teach a range of exam syllabuses. This is a highly rewarding and varied role.

You will be required to travel within the Buckinghamshire area working within the student’s home or at one of our school sites.

You will need to demonstrate the ability to work independently without direct supervision and have experience of a range of strategies to engage students with varying medical needs. You should have experience of working to support the needs of a diverse range of school-aged children.

You will need to mention the days on which you are available. This would suit teachers who are looking for a flexible working arrangement.
