Charterhouse is a beautiful school and a wonderful place to live and work. It was founded in 1611 and moved to its present magnificent 250 acre site near Godalming in 1872. The School has over 800 pupils aged between 13 and 18, all of whom, except for about 40 ‘day boarders’, are boarders.
We are looking for a strong pastoral leader for September 2019, to lead a boys’ only boarding house, with boys aged 13-18, where the existing Housemaster is standing down having completed a long tenure of service. This appointment commences as we start an exciting new phase in our strategic development, preparing to accept girls from 13+ from September 2021 to become fully coeducational across all year groups by September 2023. In readiness for this, from September 2019 we are growing our boarding house provision, by establishing girls’ only boarding houses (two from September 2019 and an additional House from September 2021). Initially these Houses will cater for sixth form girls but from September 2021 will become home for girls aged 13-18.
This is an outstanding opportunity for an enthusiastic, experienced and pastorally-minded graduate to work within a dynamic and ambitious School. The successful candidate will teach a reduced timetable (any subject) and, in addition to excellent subject knowledge, a positive track record of achievement in team leadership, communication and management is essential, demonstrating the capability to turn a vision into results with a strong sense of kindness and emotional resilience, putting the pastoral care of all pupils at the heart of activities.
Charterhouse offers a competitive salary scale, and family accommodation as required and other benefits including membership of the School’s Sports Club and private medical insurance.

The closing date for applications is 12 noon on Thursday 24 January 2019 and interviews will take place shortly thereafter.
Please note that candidates from our 2018 campaign are being considered as a matter of course and do not need to reapply. We will be back in touch to elicit continued interest, as appropriate.
The post-holders will be responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children with whom they come into contact. They must ensure compliance with the School's Child Protection Policy Statement at all times. These appointments will be subject to checks with the Disclosure and Barring Service and with past employers.
