Job overview

Giggleswick is seeking to appoint a Housemistress/Housemaster for Style.  This senior pastoral position is an excellent opportunity for an energetic, enthusiastic and well-qualified individual wishing to play a very significant role within this lively boarding school environment.  This is an incredibly rewarding position, but it is one that requires patience, resilience and a keen eye for detail.

The successful applicant will be an experienced graduate teacher with a strong proven commitment to boarding education.  They will require a genuine understanding of the young and have a keen interest in promoting their development and well-being.

The ability to encourage high standards, develop a positive rapport with pupils and parents and maintain a calm and caring atmosphere is essential.  Sound judgment, excellent communication skills and a good sense of humour will also be invaluable!

A commitment to the values and expectations of this boarding community and to the welfare of the pupils is a vital component of the job.

MAIN DUTIES AND REPSONSIBILITIES

The Housemistress/Housemaster acts in loco parentis and has immediate responsibility for the pastoral, social and academic welfare of their pupils with particular emphasis on the care, guidance and development of all pupils as individuals.  The Senior House Staff team play a central role in the daily running of the School and provide the principal point of communication between the pupils, their parents and Giggleswick.

Senior House Staff are accountable to the Headmaster through the Deputy Head, but they always have direct access to him.  They attend weekly pastoral meetings, carry out duties and attend meetings for all staff in addition to all other functions that are appropriate.  Because of the varied nature of the position there are no fixed hours of work; it does necessitate significant involvement not only in term time but during the school holidays as well.

The closing date for applications is 21 February 2020.

Please complete the application form found on the School website http://www.giggleswick.org.uk/Employment-Opportunities where you will also find the full job description.
