Founded in 1884, Surbiton High School has become one of the premier independent schools in South-West London, educating c.1,600 pupils across the Boys’ Prep, Girls’ Prep and Senior School for girls. Whilst embracing an intellectually rigorous academic environment in which pupils achieve remarkable results, Surbiton High School fundamentally believes that the happiness and confidence of every child are the key foundations to their future success. All three Schools aim to inspire, encourage, and empower every pupil. Through the provision of outstanding pastoral care, Surbiton High School pupils flourish into compassionate, respectful, courageous and inquisitive members of the community, living out the School’s motto: Amor nos semper ducat (May love always lead us).

Surbiton High School pupils develop a love of learning as they engage in an innovative curriculum designed to develop good learning habits that will prepare and empower them for their future lives. We provide a broad, balanced, challenging and enriching educational experience for all pupils, recognising that education must look beyond the A*s. We consistently strive to create a place where every child is valued, encouraged to give their very best and given an opportunity to grow in confidence. Delighting in the individual and celebrating diversity are key facets of the school’s identity, and, located on the outskirts of London, Surbiton High is ideally placed to attract and retain pupils of all backgrounds and cultures.

Our pupils are authentic young individuals with strong values, keen to make a positive difference in an ever-changing world. Engaging in classroom learning, or musical, artistic, sporting, enterprise, or charitable endeavours, they are constantly encouraged to connect with the wider world, embrace new experiences with confidence, self-belief, and a ‘can-do’ attitude. The Surbiton experience combines our challenging academic education with a co-curricular programme designed to challenge our pupils and develop values and behaviours to sustain them for life.

Surbiton High School prides itself on being able to help pupils to find their niche through both their academic and co-curricular activities, and all staff are expected to play a full part in the academic, co-curricular and pastoral life of the School. Our staff are inspirational and dedicated, delivering a rich curriculum and programme of activities to challenge our pupils to explore ideas for themselves. Surbiton High School seeks applications from those who are committed to upholding core values and maintaining our status as a leading school of choice, rated ‘excellent in all areas’ by ISI in 2023.
