Penny has visited the school and met with the leadership team on many occasions and placed many teachers here over the years.

Our happy, supportive and tremendously successful secondary team was recently certified one of the best schools in the world by British Schools Overseas (BSO).

Our happy, successful, and diverse cohort of staff helped us achieve our recent certification as one of the best British International Schools in the world. Now we’re looking for an accomplished HR manager to help ensure we remain an excellent place to work.

We need somebody with experience looking after overseas staff. A good knowledge of Qatar employment law, experience working in schools, and a friendly, positive attitude would all be of huge benefit. If that sounds like you, we’d love you to get in touch.

About you

  • To be a successful candidate, you will have:
  • Solid experience of working in school HR, either in Qatar or in the UK. We would consider somebody with non-school HR experience if they excel in other areas and show commitment to learning quickly.
  • Thorough knowledge of UK and local employment best practice, and Qatar Labour Law or a willingness to study it.
  • Experience of working for a company that prides itself in looking after its staff, especially those who are a long way from home.
  • Total fluency in English reading, writing and speaking – other languages may be considered an advantage.
  • Proficiency in all standard ICT systems including MS Office and Google programmes, payroll software, various CMS and HRMS.
  • Impeccable tact, judgement, trustworthiness and professionalism when it comes to the most sensitive and confidential staffing matters.
  • Experience managing a small department to achieve collective outcomes.
  • A positive, helpful, ‘can do’ attitude; always willing to go the extra mile to ensure HR runs smoothly to a high standard.

You will manage the Human Resources Department to help ensure that QIS is appropriately staffed, and that all staff are content, fit for work and employed in accordance both with local law and the school’s own policies.

You will work closely with the Principal and other department managers on all matters involving staffing. This will help ensure the safe, legal, and high-quality employment of staff – both local and overseas – regarding matters including (but not limited to):

  • Recruitment and retention
  • Salary and benefits
  • Staff accommodation
  • Policies and procedures
  • Attendance and punctuality
  • Health and welfare
  • Disciplinary matters and grievances
  • Reward and recognition
  • Annual flights and travel.

About us

QIS is one of the best international schools both in the nation of Qatar and in the wider Middle East region – we are one of only three schools in the world to hold British Schools Overseas’ Gold Standard.

We follow the latest National Curriculum for England, and all our non-Arabic teachers have either taught or been trained under the UK system – most having moved to Qatar especially to work for us. We have approximately 2,000 students and about 220 staff.

We aim to be a truly competitive employer, expecting great things from our staff and offering them a caring and rewarding workplace in exchange.

Application and interview

We don’t believe in long, repetitive application forms – just email us your CV and a brief covering letter that shows how you meet our criteria.

Initial interviews may be conducted online or in person if you are already in Qatar.

Unfortunately, due to the high volume of excellent applications we receive, we are unable to notify those who have not been shortlisted.

About Qatar International School

Qatar International School is a British International private school located in Doha, the capital city of the State of Qatar. The school follows the latest National Curriculum of England and Wales for students ranging between 3 and 18 years of age.

The school is led and managed by British professionals and it strives to maintain the highest standards of the current British education system, whilst also supporting its Arabic culture and international context.

Our long and illustrious history traces its roots back over 40 years to 1977, making us the oldest British International School in Qatar. Under the leadership of our Executive Principal, Deane Baker (who joined us in September 2013), we have achieved various national and international accreditations at the highest levels. We hold numerous high achievement awards for our international examination success.

Education is highly valued in Qatar. This means our school enjoys working with extremely supportive parents and wonderfully enthusiastic, highly motivated students.

Children are taught in Key Stages from KS1 through to KS5 and examinations are taken in GCSE, IGCSE and A Levels using UK examination boards. The vast majority of students leaving QIS move onto higher education in leading universities all over the world but most especially the UK, USA, Canada, UAE, and Qatar itself. The vast majority of teaching staff are UK-trained, and the school prides itself on ensuring it keeps up to date with the best international practice in education and learning.

In 2001 the school moved to its current, purpose-built campus in the Diplomatic Quarter of Dafna, close to the skyscrapers and business centre of West Bay. Here, under the ownership of the founder’s son, Sheikh Khalid bin Ali bin Ahmad Al Thani, the school continues to thrive – expanding and developing its excellent specialist facilities. These include science laboratories, ICT suites, a swimming pool, playing fields, and a large sports hall.

Our student body is truly international, with over 60 different nationalities represented within the current cohort. While the teaching staff are predominantly from the UK and the curriculum is taught in English, the school is adept at integrating students from a wide variety of cultural and academic backgrounds.

We hope you will enjoy browsing our website and we look forward to welcoming you to the school in future.
