Pay Range: Local Government Scale 8 £29,577 - £32,234 (Point 25-28)

Full Time (37 hours per week, 52 weeks per year)

Place of Work: Colchester or Clacton

Start Date: As soon as possible


The Role

Sigma is a multi-academy trust, responsible for 12 schools and a teacher training provider in Colchester and Tendring, employing 1,600 staff.  As an HR Officer you will provide confidential support and guidance to Trust leaders, managers and staff, ensuring that the people agenda is at the heart of the organisation’s day to day operations. The successful candidate can be based in either Clacton or Colchester, however there will be an expectation to visit schools on a regular basis. 

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who has experience within a similar role or for someone who is looking for the next step in their HR career. 

We’re looking for you if you have… 

  • Experience of working in an HR role 
  • Knowledge and experience of employment related policies 
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills  
  • Experience of supporting HR processes in a medium sized company 
  • The ability to work under pressure to prioritise and meet deadline


Some of your key responsibilities will include: 

  • Providing operational support and guidance to Trust leaders and managers in all aspects of Human Resources ensuring that Trust HR policies are embedded and consistently applied across schools. 
  • Providing expert support to Trust leaders and managers in casework matters, including misconduct, capability & absence management. 
  • Support staff sickness absence management including analysing patterns of absence, monitoring trigger points, ensuring return to work and absence review meetings are conducted. 
  • Understanding the needs & challenges within own school portfolio & support headteachers to problem solve, identify solutions and share best practice.

The Sigma Trust is a local partnership of twelve academies in North East Essex, formally established in September 2016. The Trust currently consists of eight secondary schools, one primary, two junior schools and an infant and nursery school.

All schools are geographically close enough to provide the necessary support and challenge to take all academies to the next level. We have a set of shared values and a common mission and vision that aims to ensure that no child is left behind.
