Inspired learning. Empowering young women of integrity. We are seeking a strong Human Resource professional to take on an Executive position in the School.

The Human Resources (HR) Manager reports to the Principal to continuously improve staff culture, employee relations and staff management. The HR Manager develops and refines HR policies and procedures and oversees their implementation. The role is also responsible for the improvement of HR systems in accordance with legislative and industrial relations requirements and HR best practice.

This role is very involved in the day-to-day staffing of the school. Responsible for overseeing and managing the Human Resources function at Kambala including all employment relations matters, payroll, recruitment strategy and operations, salary benchmarking, managing support staff performance management processes, managing and developing HR reporting, policies and processes, and leads the work health and safety committee. 

The position is a temporary  full-time position commencing in April for up to 12 months to cover extended leave. 

The key responsibilities of the position include (but are not limited to):

  • Adhere to all legislative requirements relating to employment relations and maintain appropriate relationships with legal advisors.
  • Implement and manage HR structures that facilitate the development of all staff and students in line with the Strategic Vision.
  • Work closely with the Payroll Officer to ensure payroll is accurate and timely.
  • Provide a coaching and advisory role to Managers and other staff members as and when required.
  • Responsible for all HR reporting to the Council and Executive. 
  • Overseeing professional development processes of support staff.
  • Supporting all managers with performance management matters from mediation to formal performance management processes. 
  • Staff wellbeing – lead the staff wellbeing strategic initiative and manage external providers that provide wellbeing support e.g. EAP 
  • Manage the facilitation of mandatory  staff training programs through the online portal. e.g. code of conduct, child protection, privacy etc. 
  • Manage the overall Recruitment and Selection processes across the School.
  • Key contact for MEA negotiation on behalf of the School.
  • Responsible for managing the HR budget.
  • in conjunction with the Facilities Manager, lead the WH&S committee. 
  • Manage process for workers compensation claims.
  • Managing all relationships with third party providers such as labour hire and recruitment agencies. 
  • Management of the onboarding/offboarding processes for all new staff.

We are looking for a HR professional who has:

  • Human Resources or Employment Relations tertiary qualifications.
  • an understanding of HR practices, legislation and current issues for teachers and administration staff including immigration and visa processes.
  • a minimum of 5 years experience in generalist HR role at a similar level.
  • experience in Award/EBA/EA environment essential.
  • experience negotiating EBAs/EAs preferable.
  • a demonstrated knowledge of implementing HR strategy.
  • experience working in environments experiencing significant change desirable.
  • has a commitment to ongoing professional learning.
  • exceptional communication skills including report writing skills and a strong customer focus.
  • the ability to build trusted relationships and rapport with key stakeholders.
  • exceptional problem solving skills and ability to critically analyse issues.
  • will support the co-curricular and pastoral care programs at the school.
  • will actively support the ethos of this Anglican Independent School.

Kambala is an all-girls, non-selective, Anglican, independent, all-through day and boarding school in New South Wales, serving students from the age of 4-18. The all-through school is situated in Rose Bay, and overlooks the Sydney Harbour. 

Kambala was founded in 1997. The current principal has been there since 2014. It is divided into three sites: the school’s early learning centre, a primary school and a secondary school. The school places a huge importance on IT skills, seeing all students equipped with their own iPad from primary school. It is vital to the all-through school that teachers benefit from professional training opportunities in a welcoming and stimulating working environment.

Kambala boasts a wide range of modern learning facilities across its three campuses, including multi-purpose halls, multiple play areas, a 25-metre swimming pool, a large, well-stocked library, extensive outdoor grounds, science laboratories, photography lighting rooms and sports courts.

Curriculum

The all-through school offers a broad and varied curriculum, including an extensive range of languages - French, Japanese, Latin or Mandarin. In secondary school, pupils work to study towards the International Baccalaureate (IB). Extracurricular activities are available for students to get involved in, ranging from sports to a school choir. There is also private tutoring for students requiring additional help.
