Full Time

We are looking for a dynamic, committed and enthusiastic qualified secondary Humanities teacher to join our team of creative teachers to teach KS3, KS4 and Sixth Form.

We are looking for someone who can teach Geography, History and RE and further develop creative and interesting new programmes of study in the humanities. Good subject knowledge is essential as our students are following GCSE and A Level curriculums

You must have mainstream experience of teaching humanities subjects and may be looking to broaden your experience into SEN teaching.

Experience of working with young people with autism, behaviour needs or mental health needs will be welcome but is not essential as we will provide full training.

The Holmewood School is an independent day school for neurodivergent children and young people aged from 7 to 19 who have a primary diagnosis of Autism. Our young people are broadly similar to their mainstream peers in their academic ability but require support with communication and interaction, executive functioning, anxiety, functional skills and other needs related to their diagnosis. Many of our young people also have co-occurring diagnoses, such as ADHD and dyslexia.

We were awarded an Outstanding rating by Ofsted following their visit in May 2022 and we are proud to have Advanced Accreditation Status granted by the National Autistic Society.

You will be committed to providing the best opportunities for our group of learners and ensuring every child is supported to achieve their full potential.

We can offer you the benefits of working in a small, warm and friendly school to an independent school calendar with increased holidays and excellent professional training and development.

We are located in North London on two sites. Our Lower School is conveniently situated directly opposite Woodside Park station on the Northern line. Our Upper School is located in leafy Muswell Hill (backing on to Alexandra Palace).

We work closely with the other schools in our group, have extensive community links and believe in ‘thinking differently’ and being as creative as possible in our teaching.

A flexible approach to teaching, a willingness to get involved in all aspects of school life, and the ability to work under pressure with young people that can challenge us is essential to enable the best outcomes for our group of learners.

Closing date: Monday 17th April at 9am

Interviews and teaching observations will be held at The Holmewood School (site to be confirmed) week commencing 24th April 2023

Please apply via the TES website. Further application details are available from Jeanette Bär, HR Administrator, on 020 8920 0660, enquiries@thsl.org.uk or at the above address.

For an informal chat, visit or to find out more about the role please call 020 8920 0660 and ask to speak to Bridget Young, Headteacher.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect all staff to share this commitment.

Applicants must be able to provide evidence of having the right to live and work in the UK at the time of application. We are unable to offer sponsorship for this post.

Successful applicants will be subject to an enhanced DBS check and online search prior to employment.

It is an offence to apply for the role if the applicant is barred from engaging in regulated activity relevant to children.

We are an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all suitably qualified persons regardless of their race, sex, disability, religion/belief, sexual orientation or age.

We encourage diversity in our staffing in order for children and young people to see themselves represented in society.
