About The School:
GEMS Wellington Academy Al Khail is a Premium National Curriculum for England School, located in the rapidly expanding Dubai Hills development. The Primary section opened in September 2013 and Secondary opened in September 2014. This is an international world class school dedicated to fostering a passion for excellence in learning and in life.
Children learn in a vibrant, inclusive and creative learning environment that encourages teamwork, critical thinking, independent inquiry and risk-taking. Our staff are recruited almost exclusively from the UK and are highly skilled and experienced in delivering the National Curriculum. Teaching is significantly enhanced through the use of technology, which is used predominantly by students to create and present new content. Innovation and creativity are actively encouraged and the learning programme is significantly enhanced by a rich and varied extra-curricular programme of over 100 activities, which emphasises our belief that students should be learning from the moment they arrive in school until they leave at the end of the day. We are an internationally minded school with students representing over 80 nationalities and are an accredited member of the Council of British International Schools. We are proud of our inclusive culture: our expectation of all students is that they strive to excel and make significant progress well beyond expectations commensurate to their starting point.
The Role:
We are looking for outstanding Humanities Teachers to join the team in September 2018.
We are looking for experienced teachers who are excited to join our world class school, driven to provide education at an exceptional level. GEMS teachers enjoy an outstanding school environment in which to deliver a dynamic and creative curriculum to motivated students.
Applicants will have solid and demonstrable experience of UK National Curriculum - History or Geography experience will be considered.
Applicants must be fully qualified teachers with 1 year post qualifying experience, however we will consider applications from NQT’s

Chief Executive Officer/Principal
Ms Ann Haydon MBE took up the position of CEO/Principal in January 2026, having led Surbiton High School as Principal from 2008 until 2017 and Harrow International School Hong Kong from 2017 until 2025. During her tenure at Harrow Hong Kong, the School was consistently named one of the Top 100 Schools in the World and received CIS and BSO accreditations.
Having graduated in Geography and Economics from the University of Surrey, Ann Haydon completed her PGCE at University of Nottingham, going on to gain the National Qualification for Headship from University of London. She is a fellow of the Chartered College of Teaching.
Ms Haydon was awarded a distinction in the Pearson UK Headteacher of the Year Award and gained national recognition for her work in leadership, governance, teaching and learning, and marketing in schools. In 2024, she was named on King Charles III’s New Year’s Honours List and awarded an MBE for services to British Education in the UK and Hong Kong. Ms Haydon has served as HMC London Division Secretary, a member of the HMC Sports Committee, and is the International Schools representative on the HMC Communications Committee. She was also a member of the United Learning Heads Reference Group working on strategic developments across a group of Independent schools and academies and has sat on the governing body of several independent schools. She is currently a Governor at Repton School UK.
