Job Title:  Humanities Teacher
Location:   The Wenlock School, Dudley, West Midlands, DY1 3SB
Hours:  37.5 per week | Monday to Friday
Rota:  Monday 8.15am – 4.30pm, Tuesday to Friday 8.15am – 3.45pm 
Salary:  Up to £42,000.00 per annum (depending on experience, not pro rata)
Contract:  Permanent | Term Time Only
Start:  May 2026

About the Role

As a Humanities Teacher, you will inspire pupils across Key Stages 3 to 5 through engaging teaching in subjects such as History, Geography, Politics, and Religious Education. Working with learners who may have a range of SEND needs—including ADHD, ASD and trauma‑related barriers—you will create a supportive, adaptive and trauma‑informed classroom environment where every student can succeed. This role is ideal for a calm, compassionate professional with high expectations and a passion for helping young people grow academically and personally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach Humanities subjects across Key Stages 3–5, ensuring high‑quality curriculum delivery aligned with national standards.

  • Plan creative and engaging lessons, assess pupil progress and maintain accurate records to address any underperformance.

  • Support the pastoral, social, and emotional needs of students, prioritising wellbeing and safeguarding.

  • Adapt teaching to meet diverse cognitive and SEN needs within a trauma‑informed, holistic framework.

  • Contribute to Individual Education Plans and Behaviour Plans, ensuring personalised support for each student.

  • Build strong working relationships with colleagues, parents and carers, attending meetings and ensuring consistent communication.

  • Take part in wider school life, including extracurricular activities and enrichment opportunities.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS): Essential teaching qualification.

  • Subject Knowledge: Strong expertise across Humanities subjects.

  • Experience: Proven success teaching from Key Stage 3 to Key Stage 5, with evidence of strong pupil progress.

  • Skills: Effective classroom management, empathy and the ability to create a nurturing, inclusive and safe learning environment.

  • Full UK Driving Licence

The Wenlock School offers an outstanding and therapeutic educational approach with a staff team dedicated and determined to support every individual. Our custom built school has been designed with specialised facilities, creating a unique environment, which will help our learners re-engage with their education supported by a personalised and purposeful curriculum. We will also embrace a raft of initiatives with personalised targets to ensure every child can make excellent progress, appropriate to their specific needs.  Many children come to us with very complex needs, communication difficulties and associated challenging behaviour. We always look beyond the issues and potential barriers to learning and recognise the innate potential within. We invest time with each individual child to recognise and understand their learning needs so that we can put in place the right support package. Our expectations are very high for both behaviour and achievement, because we know that we can help children make much more progress than they would within a mainstream school environment
