Overview

The IB DP Coordinator / Subject Teacher reports to the Head of Upper and Senior School. The core purpose of the IB DP Coordinator / Subject Teacher is to organize and manage all aspects of the IB Diploma Programme in accordance with the schools’ mission statement and philosophy. This requires the DP coordinator to have a solid understanding of the programme in order to provide staff, students and parents with comprehensive information regarding the IB DP, its philosophy, aims and requirements. The role of DP coordinator is considered a management position. As a member of the Academic Team the DP coordinator is expected to liaise with the IB PYP and IB MYP coordinators to ensure a coherent whole school IB continuum exists.

Under the direction of the Head of Upper and Senior School DPC provides overall leadership for Learning and Teaching for the DP and supports in the appraisal and development of DP staff. The DPC is responsible for all DP administration and assessment. He or She is expected to maintain a thorough understanding of all aspects of the DP and actively endorse and promote the principles that underpin it.

Main Responsibilities:

●     Act as a contact point between the IB regional office and the school on all matters regarding the DP, ensuring that the school meets all IB regulations and deadlines

●     Communicating with the IB regional office concerning professional development/workshops

●     Organise and facilitate the IB Formal Examination Sessions for all students sitting IB DP Examinations and Mock examination sittings in preparation for the summative examination sessions to ensure the school meets all IB regulations and requirements

●     Developing and implementing a DP action plan based on the IB Standards and Practices

●     Overseeing and effectively preparing the school community for transition from MYP to DP

●     Advising and assisting in the formulating and reviewing of IB related school policies

●     Analysing assessment data to track the progress of individual students and data from formal assessment at the end of the Diploma Programme

●     Promoting and coordinating interaction with other IB DP schools through attending workshops, conferences, school visits and correspondence, in addition to staff participation in IB DP workshops, job alikes and conferences

●     Manage and communicate the schools graduation requirements alongside the Head of Upper and Senior School

●     Maintaining open communication with staff especially in relation to curriculum matters, DP developments and updates

●     Ensuring that all DP members access current IB publications & teacher support materials

●     Leading the implementation process of the curriculum, in particular the development of Scope and Sequence and subject unit planners in alignment with subject specific objectives

●     Overseeing the development of unit planners using the process outlined in the guide, DP: From principles into practice

●     Providing guidance, advice and support to faculty as needed throughout the implementation and delivery of the programme

●     Facilitating the development of student learning expectations that show progression of the approaches to learning (within ATLs) throughout the Diploma Programme

●     Identifying, encouraging and coordinating professional development opportunities of teachers at IB DP workshops and conferences in relation to the program

●     Implementing and overseeing DP training and induction for newly appointed DP teachers

●     Overseeing curriculum review & facilitating curriculum development around the themes of international mindedness, TOK, holistic awareness, communication & cultural understanding

●     Ensuring parents & students are well informed about IB DP developments and school activities

●     Assisting transfer students by liaising with their previous school and/or providing information to the receiving school through Admissions and Central Office

●     Any other duties as reasonably requested by the Head of School.

●     ​​Contribute to the extra-curricular activity programme (Brookes Plus) and participate in school activities such as assemblies, evening events, and open days

●     Collaborate with members of the school community to build a team environment which supports students’ learning, including ‘Buzz Groups’

●     Take on duties at break and lunch times, together with evenings and a weekend session supervising boarding students
