EF Academy Torbay
Torquay, Devon. TQ1 3BG
IB Film Teacher
(Full Time)
EF Academy Torbay seeks to appoint an individual who is an enthusiastic and innovative teacher, with energy and drive.
The primary qualities sought are a genuine passion for teaching Film and the strong subject knowledge and experience required to teach the subject on IB Diploma as well as an interest in teaching media at A-Level or IGCSE. A willingness to contribute to the wider co-curricular and community activity of a lively international boarding school situated in this beautiful part of the UK is essential.
The IB Film Room is equipped with Nikon D3300 cameras, Rode Mics, 50mm Lenses, Gimbals & iMacs (with Adobe Creative Cloud installed). Our learners are often new to film production and therefore a full, in-depth understanding of at least Premiere Pro & Auditions is essential, especially given the amount of production work required for IB Film. Whilst the IB encourages more independent learning on the part of the student it is still expected that the teacher has sufficient technical knowledge to support their creative ideas. As a result, a working knowledge of After Effects and GarageBand would also be beneficial.
Alongside, the production requirements of the course a strong and robust knowledge of film history, analysis and theoretical perspectives is essential to help guide learners through the academic parts of the course. A specialism or interest in a specific national cinema (style/genre/movement e.g. British Social Realism) would also be helpful as a means to inspire and engage learners to seek out cinema from cultures beyond their own experience.
The IB Film course has a successful history with learners often achieving above their target grades. The successful candidate would have ownership on the future developments of the course in terms of resources and direction.
Closing date for applications is 12 noon on Wednesday 24th April.
Interviews will take place w/c 29th April.
Salary: Competitive and dependent upon skills and experience.
We are committed to the safeguarding of children and young people and we expect all staff to share this commitment. All applicants will be subject to pre-employment screening, which includes an enhanced DBS and reference check prior to appointment.
