Job overview

H.I.S. is an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, serving the needs of the international community within the Rhine-Neckar region. We provide a respectful and supportive learning environment for students from 4 years old through to the IB Diploma.

H.I.S. offers the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) to students aged 4 to 12, in seven classes from Early Primary 1 to Grade 5. The Programme focuses on the total growth of the developing child; social, physical, emotional and cultural needs, in addition to academic development. The PYP draws on research and best practice from a range of national systems, with a wealth of knowledge and experience from international schools, to create a relevant, engaging, challenging and significant educational framework for all children.

Since the initial IB PYP Authorisation was achieved in 2007, H.I.S has successfully participated in two IB Evaluation Visits in 2010 and 2016. We are now introducing the Enhanced PYP and preparing for a Synchronised Visit in 2021 with CIS, NEASC and the IB.

The successful PYP Co-ordinator applicant will be a fluent English speaker with a valid teaching qualification. PYP classroom experience and training are essential, and knowledge of German is beneficial.

At H.I.S. the PYP Co-ordinator is a full-time teacher with a time stipend of 3 days per week to fulfil the co-ordination responsibilities as described in the Role Description.

Values and Vision

Heidelberg International School aims to educate the students on the diverse society they live within. They are taught to be respectful and tolerant of people from different backgrounds and those with different religions to them. The pupils are encouraged to share their life stories with everyone in the classroom. The school holds a yearly Fun Fest. This festival celebrates the differences in every individual. The pupils are also taught to develop personal, moral and social skills, as well as gaining academic qualifications by attending the school. The teachers nurture the pupils and help to further their development. The students should take part in clubs outside of school hours. These activities include revision clubs, wall climbing, physical education – to name a few. The curriculum is balanced and gives the students excellent knowledge and the skills needed to succeed in the modern world. It should also help them become employable.
