About the role
Aoba-Japan International School is seeking an experienced, knowledgeable, and student-centred IBDP Coordinator to lead the continued development of its Diploma Programme. This is a key leadership role for a professional who combines strong IB expertise with sound judgement, relational leadership, and the ability to ensure both quality and consistency across the programme.
The IBDP Coordinator is responsible for the effective implementation, administration, and ongoing development of the Diploma Programme in line with IB standards and the school’s vision. The role includes oversight of curriculum planning, assessment procedures, teacher support, student guidance, programme compliance, and communication with key stakeholders.
Key responsibilities
The successful candidate will:
provide pedagogical leadership for the Diploma Programme and ensure alignment with IB standards and practices
oversee curriculum planning and documentation across the DP, including subject and interdisciplinary approaches
coordinate all aspects of DP administration, including student registration, examinations, and compliance with IB requirements
lead and support professional learning for DP teachers, including the induction of new staff
promote collaboration, consistency, and high standards of teaching and learning across the programme
manage internal and external assessment processes in accordance with IB expectations
support students with subject selection, academic pathways, and programme requirements
communicate clearly and effectively with students, parents, teachers, school leaders, and the IB
lead parent information sessions and workshops relating to the DP and its core components
work closely with university guidance staff to support student transitions beyond school
contribute to strategic planning, continuous improvement, and whole-school leadership priorities
manage the DP budget and ensure appropriate resourcing for programme delivery
collaborate with PYP and MYP coordinators to strengthen articulation and continuity across the IB continuum
Candidate profile
We are looking for a candidate who brings:
substantial experience teaching within the IB Diploma Programme
a strong understanding of IB standards, practices, assessment, and programme requirements
previous leadership experience in a DP coordination or similar academic leadership role
the credibility and confidence to lead colleagues and support professional growth
strong organisational, interpersonal, and communication skills
a commitment to student achievement, wellbeing, and high-quality programme delivery
the capacity to work collaboratively with staff, students, parents, and senior leaders in an international school context
Qualifications and experience
Candidates should have:
a minimum of five years of teaching experience within the IB Diploma Programme
a bachelor’s degree in education or a related field
a master’s degree, or equivalent advanced qualification, as an advantage
prior experience as a DP Coordinator or in a similar leadership role, preferred
