Job overview

Following the success of the original scheme, we have an exciting opportunity for a new IT Apprentice at Bedales for a fixed-term period of up to two years. This position is ideal for an individual with a passion and enthusiasm for information technology and who wishes to embark on an ICT career. Whilst learning how to provide exemplary customer support, you would also undertake the Infrastructure Technician Apprenticeship, which includes a range of industry-recognised vendor qualifications. More specifically, you will: 

  • Undergo a programme of work and training in relation to providing ICT support to staff and pupils, resolving their day-to-day ICT issues 
  • Work predominantly with ICT staff on the ICT Helpdesk, acting as the first go-to contact for staff with ICT questions

The successful candidate will need to be a reliable and capable individual who can use their own initiative, as well as work as part of a team. You will need to be able to organise yourself and prioritise work correctly. You will need to demonstrate you have a clear passion for technology, either in your spare time or through your education and are willing to learn. 

Duties

You will be responsible for: 

  • Maintaining the printer and photocopying estate, resolving issues and liaising with suppliers to ensure they are optimised and working for all staff 
  • Resolving day-to-day ICT queries and technical issues with an emphasis on maintaining equipment utilised by staff and pupils (e.g. PCs, laptops, printers, photocopiers, scanners, audio/visual systems, telephones and other hardware) whilst supporting audio/visual requirements at regular and impromptu school events

Hours of Work

This post works all year round, two-thirds of which are during term time when teaching is taking place and also during the school holidays. You will be required to work 7.5 hours per day, 5 days a week, working your hours between 07:00 and 18:00. As the School teaches on Saturdays, you will also be required to work a maximum of four Saturdays per year from 08:00 to 13:00 with the time claimed back the following week. Very occasionally, you may be required to support out-of-hours school events.

Salary

The salary is £13,319 to £18,525 per annum; annual salary based on the National Minimum Wage for age from 1 April 2022 and the above hours and weeks of work.

The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the School is therefore permitted to ask job candidates to declare all convictions and cautions (including those which are "spent" unless they are "protected" under the DBS filtering rules) in order to assess their suitability to work with children.

Bedales School is an independent, co-educational, selective, day and boarding school for children aged 3-18. It is situated in Petersfield in Hampshire and there are 460 pupils on its roll. There are admission fees and scholarships and bursaries are available.

Bedales is a charitable trust and was founded in 1893 by J H Badley as a humane alternative to the authoritarian regimes of the late-Victorian public schools. Its founding ethos was, and still is, “Head, Hand and Heart.”
