Below is a summary of your key roles and responsibilies;-
- Provide technical support and advice to students and teaching staff.
- Perform routine ICT tasks.
- Manage small projects.
- Facilitate the smooth running of the network by undertaking reasonable tasks as required, including some administrative tasks.
- Support the school’s Internet, Email and Virtual Learning Environment.
- Support the day-to-day running of the curriculum/admin network in collaboration with the Network Manager.
- Provide support and maintenance for network hardware and software, including classroom support.
- Provide technical support for curriculum and school events
- Support staff in the use of ICT equipment.
- Report faults to the Network Manager as required.
- Support in-house training as and when required.
- Attend meetings as and when required.
- Be aware of and comply with the policies and procedures relating to child protection, equality and diversity, health, safety and security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person.
The ICT Technician under guidance from the ICT Network Manager, will be responsible for general maintenance of defined computer equipment and for the resolution of identified technical problems, as well as undertaking general tasks which will promote the use of ICT across the curriculum.
- install and test new software
- make software available to appropriate users
- ensure the anti-virus software is installed, kept up to date and working properly on all workstations
- share files as required by staff for pupil and teacher use
- set up and maintain user e-mail accounts
- maintain and update the school website
- keep an up to date inventory of software licences
- perform any upgrades required to software
- check new computer equipment on arrival and install as appropriate
- liaise with the designated person responsible for the maintenance of the inventory, keep a list of all serial numbers and log of machine location
- liaise with the designated person responsible for portable appliance electrical safety testing
- maintain battery condition in notebook computers according to the manufacturer’s guidelines, and ensure staff are aware of the importance of battery maintenance
- maintain computer peripheral equipment such as scanners, printers, whiteboards, projectors; ensure that these are prepared and ready to be used
- liaise with the ICT Network Manager in the deployment of computer hardware around the school
- keep a log of all technical faults
- liaise with external support agencies as appropriate.
- liaise with external suppliers for the repair of equipment under warranty or maintenance contract
- check the network back up logs where appropriate
- set up, maintain and remove user network accounts where appropriate
- carry out routine network maintenance tasks
- be familiar with the network infrastructure (cable and patch panels, hubs, switches, OCN router) and keep a log of any damage to it
- follow supplier’s recommended procedures
- To ensure high quality technical support as part of educational provision and support for young people with MLD/Complex needs
- To improve outcomes for children and young people, who are unable to attend mainstream school, so that they can: be healthy; stay safe; enjoy and achieve; make a positive contribution; and achieve economic well-being.
- To fully and actively support the Every Child Matters: Change for Children agenda and participate, as required, in the integrated processes, including the Common Assessment Framework, Lead professional role and Information sharing and assessment protocols.
- To work with colleagues to achieve School Development Plan (SDP) objectives and targets
- To participate in Employee Development schemes and Performance Management and contribute to the identification of own team development needs.
- To support the development of the school ethos and identity
- Provide clerical and administrative support, e.g. photocopying, typing, filing, as required
- To invigilate exams as required
- Attend meetings and training sessions as required.
- Recognise own strengths and areas of expertise and use these to advise and support others
- To maintain awareness of and commitment to the school’s Equal Opportunity Policies in relation to both employment and service delivery
- To fully comply with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 etc, the school’s Health and Safety Policy and all locally agreed safe methods of work

About The Ashley School
We are an Outstanding outward looking and successful school for children with complex and moderate learning difficulties. All pupils have an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP) for their educational needs. These plans are mainly for moderate learning difficulties, however many pupils have associated disabilities such as speech, language and communication difficulties, autism and/or social, emotional, mental health needs.
