Are you looking for an exciting new challenge?

Are you passionate about working with children and young people with SEMH needs whilst transforming lives, through real opportunities to engage in the education they are entitled to.

Do you dream of joining a team of like-minded professionals?

Ever wondered what it would be like to work for a Trust who not only fully support your professional development but put your well-being at the heart of decision making?

Due to the expansion of our Kent & Medway Hub, we have a bank of exciting opportunities available and invite you to read a little more about our journey so far and our exciting times ahead.

We are delighted that Alternative Learning Trust has received Department for Education approval to open a new Alternative Provision school for children aged 11-16 on the Island of Sheppey.

Our new school in Sheppey will form part of our Kent & Medway Hub, which already consists of schools in Gravesend and Gillingham.

In addition, our Trust has a wealth of experience in Alternative Provision to include our invaluable work across South London, where we originated.

This school will help meet the need for high quality alternative provision places in the Sheppey area, to inspire and support young people to re-engage in learning.

Our school will allow our young people to benefit from a broad, enriching, and inclusive curriculum, delivered through outstanding teaching and learning. The school will follow the highly successful North West Kent Alternative Provision model, recently inspected by Ofsted and judged as a Good School with outstanding personal development opportunities.

We are excited we will be able to offer an ambitious range of academic and vocational subjects, underpinned by individualised pastoral support, care and career guidance, which will equip students with the skills and knowledge to help them take their next steps in education, training, or employment.

Background to Alternative Learning Trust - Kent & Medway Hub

Alternative Learning Trust (ALT) is a multi-academy trust (MAT) for Pupil Referral Units (PRUs), Alternative Provisions (APs), and specialist settings. We are a collaborative trust and believe the most sustainable developments and improvements come from working together. We are driven to transform the educational experiences of all children and young people, offering them opportunities to reach sustainable outcomes for the rest of their lives. These values are accompanied by excellent pedagogy, vibrant curriculum models, and responsible governance.

The Alternative Learning Trust became a multi-academy trust (MAT company number 11788031) in June 2019. Our Sheppey School, opening in September, will become our fifth school. There are currently four schools within the Trust, The Limes College, North West Kent Alternative Provision Service (NWKAPS), Will Adams Academy and Saffron Valley Collegiate.

The Trust has been established to work with Pupil Referral Units (PRUs) and alternative providers who support vulnerable students to access and engage with education. Many of our students have special educational needs and some have been excluded from mainstream education.

Kent & Medway Hub

Sheppey School

Our school will initially provide education for up to 115 students. Our school will offer a broad and balanced learning journey for students in Years 7 – 11 with a broad range of vocational qualifications available as well as traditional GCSEs in core subjects. Our aim is to provide pathways which lead to exciting onward opportunities in education or workplaces. We will strive to ensure that all of our students receive additional opportunities in school to become responsible, respectful and active citizens who are able to play their part and become actively involved in public life as adults. We pride ourselves in our collaborative work with our local communities, we aim to establish this quickly in Sheppey and are very excited about providing a long-awaited invaluable education provision for the Island community.

Background to North West Kent Alternative Provision Service (NWKAPS)

NWKAPS is located in Gravesend, Kent and has been on a considerable and fast-paced journey, making exciting and positive strides forward. We have an amazing team who are focused on providing the best outcomes for our students, promoting positive behaviour for learning and creating a high quality teaching environment.

Ofsted say that, ‘For many pupils, their time at NWKAPS is transformational.’ We strongly believe in this moral purpose and seek to continue to grow the exceptional team working to achieve this. With the right facilities and a well renowned SEND department, now is the time to come and work with us. Recent Ofsted – Good with Outstanding for personal development.

Once employed you will be given excellent support and training as we want to upskill the right candidate to ensure we have an excellent support team for our young people.

Background to Will Adams Academy

Will Adams Academy is located in Gillingham and joined Alternative Learning Trust in April 2022. The school has recently reorganised their structure and is working closely with our Gravesend school in sharing facilities, expertise and curriculum development. Ofsted outcome – Good.

Will Adams is our smallest Kent & Medway hub school with only 45 children but it is also home to our exceptional SEMH Assessment Centre and Apollo Training programmes which are commissioned by the Medway Local Authority.
