Job overview
Under the direction of the headteacher, the Inclusion Lead will:
Determine the strategic development of special educational needs (SEN) provision within the school
Be responsible for specific provision to support individual pupils with SEN or a disability
Provide professional guidance to colleagues, working closely with staff, parents and other agencies
Ensure the school meets its obligations under the statutory SEND Code of Practice
Duties and responsibilities
Strategic development of SEN policy and provision
Have a strategic overview of provision for pupils with SEN or a disability across the school, monitoring and reviewing the quality of provision in line with student’s EHCPs
Ensure IEPs are ambitious and co-constructed with children and parents
Support tutors to deliver quality First Teaching to all students
Contribute to school self-evaluation, particularly with respect to how it is supporting children to meet their EHCP targets
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of national and local initiatives that may affect the school’s policy and practice
Have strategic oversight of EHCP annual reviews
Engage with external stakeholders to ensure students are effectively supported to meet their EHCP targets
Take a lead in maintaining effective working relationships with post-16 and FE providers locally
Co-ordination of provision
Provide guidance to colleagues on how to meet student’s learning needs – in line with their EHCP, and advise on the graduated approach to SEN support
Be aware of the provision in the local offer
Work with other schools (inc FE providers), educational psychologists, health and social care professionals, and other external agencies
Be a key point of contact for external agencies
Maintain and review student’s progress against their EHCP targets
Support for pupils with SEN or a disability
Ensure records are maintained and kept up to date
Ensure school fulfils its statutory duties under the SEND Code of Practice
Ensure that when a pupil transfers to another school, all relevant information is conveyed , to support a smooth transition for the pupil
Promote the pupil’s inclusion in the school community and access to the curriculum, facilities and extra-curricular activities
Leadership and management
Work with the headteacher to ensure the school meets its responsibilities under the Equality Act 2010 in terms of reasonable adjustments and access arrangements
As part of the Senior Leadership Team, ensure the school meets its statutory duties to good effect
Contribute to the school improvement plan and whole-school policy
Promote an ethos and culture that supports the school’s SEN policy and promotes good outcomes for pupils with SEN or a disability
The Inclusion Lead will be required to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people, and follow school policies and the staff code of conduct.
