About the school

International School of Seychelles (ISS) is a leading private day school in the magnificent location of the Seychelles in the Indian Ocean.

· ISS is a co-educational non-profit school founded in 1969. The school itself is located on the island of Mahé, on the outskirts of the nation’s capital Victoria. The school is owned by the International School Association, run by parents of children in the school.

· The school is recognised and licensed by the Ministry of Education in Seychelles.

· The school’s motto is ‘you are not born for yourself, but for the world’.

· Teaching is based on a British curriculum. We have around 20% expatriate pupils and 80% Seychellois pupils.

· ISS teaches from Early Years to Year 13, and has over 1000 students from 30 nationalities on the school roll. There are 28 students in each class. The school operates mixed ability classes for all year groups, with the exception of English and Maths in KS3 and KS4.

· The International General Certificate of Education (IGCSE) is taught in Years 10-11 and Advanced Level (A level) is taught in Years 12-13. Examinations boards used by the school include Cambridge, Pearson Edexcel and Oxford AQA. The school prides itself on academic excellence, with many of its students going on to study at some of the most prestigious universities in the world.

- The school is well resourced for a school in Seychelles, a country located in Africa.

· There are four houses at ISS, named for locations in the Seychelles: Aldabra, Cardianal, Desroches, and Fregate.

· ISS is an inclusive community, where children and staff foster love for learning, and continuously contribute to the local and global community.

· The school remains confident in its mission and strives to be innovative in its approach to teaching and learning. ISS is confident that its endeavours make a difference to the individual student and the community at large.

The educational model is to offer a genuinely holistic and academic education which enables pupils to enjoy their education, develop their own interests, and discover their academic passions and we are committed to academic excellence, high- quality pastoral support, and an exceptional range of opportunities beyond the curriculum, all within a friendly and supportive atmosphere.

We are pleased to be part of such a valuable network of schools.

About the work opportunities

The school seeks to appoint qualified, enthusiastic and flexible teachers. Applicants should be committed and outstanding teaching practitioners, able to lead by example, possessing excellent teaching, organisational and communication skills.

We seek individuals who can apply a committed and common-sense approach to education, such that it achieves outstanding results and happy children. The role requires an individual who has high expectations of what children can achieve and how they can behave.

Although teachers are assigned to a specific section of the school (Primary, Secondary, Inclusion), as an all-through school we are seeking someone who is excited about the opportunities such a school creates, keen to work with staff in other sections to ensure a joined up approach to the curriculum and a seamless transition across the key stages.

The successful candidates will want to play their part in the development and implementation of the school’s strategic plan, supporting the delivery of the school's mission to make the school the number one choice on the island.

As a British curriculum school, specialising in teaching the National Curriculum to a diverse, international student population, strong English language is an essential requirement.

As a relaxed, friendly and cosmopolitan island, working in Seychelles has many benefits. From the beautiful beaches and coves spread across its 115 islands, to the majestic Mont Seychellois mountain on the main island, the splendid landscape means you are never far from the mountains or sea.

The school is looking for individuals who will embrace working in an international school, will be open to working with staff from other nationalities and cultures, will relish the opportunity to get involved in Seychellois culture and traditions, and give back to the local community through outreach activities.

As a high end tourism destination, the cost of living in Seychelles is high.
