Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons for the following position: 

INDIGENOUS EDUCATION WORKER - readvertised 

17 hours per week commencing 3 September until end of Term 4, 2018 

ROLE INCLUDES: 

  • Predominately working with students & their learning in Maths and English; 
  • Assistance with playground duties; 
  • Leading Cultural Group Experience with students; 
  • Liaising with parents and local community organisations; 
  • Overseeing and managing PLP – Personalised Learning Plans with students, teachers and parents. 

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA: 

  • Must be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander decent (must provide proof); 
  • Must hold a current Working with Children Check clearance; 

SELECTION CRITERIA WILL FOCUS ON: 

  • An understanding of and commitment to Catholic ethos and values
  • Ability to work as a member of a team 
  • Ability to lead our school vision of ‘At SMP Casino we do whatever it takes to lead the way in Love, Learning, Faith, School Spirit, Sport and Community’;
  • Sound literacy and numeracy skills; 
  • Ability to lead cultural groups; 
  • Knowledge and appreciation of the ways students learn; 
  • Sound ICT competency; 
  • Preparedness to work with small groups of children; 

The Indigenous Education Worker will also act as a role model for students by encouraging them to take pride in all aspects of their schooling. 

Please nominate two (2) referees one of whom is the Parish Priest from your usual place of worship.

About St Mary’s Catholic College Casino

St Mary's Catholic College is located in Casino, New South Wales. The school is co-educational and caters for students from Year 7-12. Approximately 370 students from Casino and the surrounding areas attend the school and are taught by 37 teaching staff. 

The school was founded in 1978. The first Year 12 cohort graduated from the school in 1994.

The school has technology facilities, a library, sports fields, music facilities and art workshops. The school also has a farm. 

Curriculum

The New South Wales Board of Studies mandates the school curriculum. As the school is Catholic, students study religious education. In the first two years of secondary schooling, students are introduced to courses that are considered electives in the later years secondary school. This allows students to engage with a broad array of subjects so that they will be able to make informed subject choices in the upper secondary years. The school runs a homework centre on Monday afternoon to provide extra support to students.
