Initial Teacher Training Secondary Subject Specialist (Drama)

Initial contract 1 year: 1st Sept 2022- 31st August 2023.

17 days equivalent

MPS/UPS (Teachers’ Pension scheme applies)

Would you love the chance to support trainee teachers at the beginning of their journey to becoming outstanding teachers? The MSC has a new and exciting opportunity for dedicated and creative teacher in  drama to work on their initial teacher training programme.

The opportunity would suit current practitioners who have a passion for their subject and how pupils learn. We are looking for great classroom practitioners who are actively engaged in the latest research and thinking around their subject pedagogy who can inspire and direct the next generation of teachers. The post holder will need to be well organised, autonomous and well-motivated.

The Mid Somerset Consortium is a School Centred Initial Teacher Training provider (SCITT) based at Crispin School in Street, Somerset. We work in partnership with the majority of secondary schools in Somerset and secondary schools in North Dorset to deliver secondary ITT.

We are revising our training programme for September 2022 and are looking to recruit subject specialists to deliver subject specific training to small groups of trainee teachers as part of the MSC’s centralised initial teacher training programme. This would be from 1st Sept 2022 until 31st August 2023 (in the first instance).

The role includes: working with the MSC team to plan and deliver the ITT curriculum; supporting trainees to put pedagogical theory in to practice in their subject area; giving feedback and guidance on their practice and liaising with mentors termly to check progress.

The MSC has a centralised training programme delivered on Tuesdays. Subject specialist sessions run on alternate Tuesday afternoons (3 hours) from Sept- Dec (seven sessions) and February half term until May half term (6 sessions). Schemes of Learning will already be in place and support will be given by the MSC for subject specialists planning and delivering these sessions.

Training sessions may be delivered remotely or in person (at Crispin School or partnership school) but we would expect at least one in three of the sessions to be face to face.

Subject specialists will also support trainees to complete portfolio tasks which they will assess in January and June and hold a viva style ‘professional conversation’ at the end of the course with trainees and mentors to help us assess the trainees’ progress and practice.

We are offering a contract for a time commitment equivalent to 17 days within the 12 months. The subject specialist would need to be available to deliver the subject specialist sessions on the stipulated Tuesday afternoons and attend moderation of trainees’ portfolios in January. The remaining hours can be worked flexibly to suit the subject specialist.

Payment would be at the post holder’s current pay scale level (Qualified Teachers’ scale). Payments would be spread across the 12 months. For teachers who are employed fulltime by a school, there is the possibility that we could arrange to ‘buy out’ the subject specialist for a proportion of their contract for the year.

Crispin is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. This post requires a criminal background check via the disclosure procedure. The successful applicant will therefore be subject to an Enhanced DBS.

This post is covered by Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016) and therefore the ability to speak fluent spoken English is an essential requirement of the role.
