Job overview

Her Majesty’s Inspector (HMI) Further Education and Skills
Circa £70,000 salary package + performance related pay and other benefits + more for National Lead responsibilities
Home-based with travel – opportunity in the North East, Yorkshire and Humber region

Could you help to bring improvement to the Further Education and Skills sector?

As an HMI, you will work with a range of Further Education and Skills providers that require improvement. You will carry out robust inspections to develop an understanding of each provider and will report objectively on standards and effectiveness. We’ll expect you to work across a variety of settings, including general further education and sixth form colleges, independent learning providers, and community learning providers, using sound judgement to analyse the evidence you collect.

What’s more, you may have the chance to take on temporary National Lead responsibilities and specialise in a particular area. This entitles you to an enhanced responsibility allowance.

To join us, you must be an experienced professional with the high levels of skill and credibility necessary to carry out inspections for Ofsted. You’ll have a relevant qualification (or equivalent experience) in education or training, a degree (or equivalent), and significant, senior leadership experience in the Further Education and Skills sector. Thanks to this background, you’ll have in-depth knowledge of current Further Education and Skills issues plus an awareness of the changes taking place in our sector.

With a track record of achieving consistent improvements and the ability to report findings clearly, you’ll be an analytical professional who keeps learners’ interests in mind.

Please note that this role requires a working broadband internet connection.

In return for your talents, we offer a range of benefits including the option to join the Civil Service Pension Scheme, professional and personal development opportunities, performance related pay, 32.5 annual leave days per annum (plus eight days’ public holiday) and counselling and advisory services for you and your family.
