Job overview

Due to the retirement of our colleague, Havering School Improvement Services (Hsis) are recruiting to the role of English Inspector in order to meet both our statutory responsibilities and the growing demand for traded school improvement consultancy.

Havering is a high achieving and ambitious London Borough, seeking to appoint a new English Inspector to the Hsis team. Hsis is highly regarded by schools and enjoys a strong reputation both within the borough and beyond.

As the borough’s English Inspector, you will be responsible principally for providing support and challenge to primary schools in Havering, so you will need an excellent knowledge and understanding of curriculum and pedagogy in the Early Years Foundation Stage, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. You will be required to undertake a quality assurance role for English across the borough but also provide school improvement advice, training and guidance via our traded service. Furthermore, you will work to support the Havering Academy of Leadership (www.haveringacademyofleadership.co.uk) as part of our partnership with headteachers, subject leaders, governors, teaching schools and other school improvement professionals.

You will be an experienced educationalist with a strong track record in leadership roles in schools and/or Local Authority, with an incisive understanding of current educational issues in English, Ofsted methodology and school improvement practice. You will be fluent in data analysis and relevant IT applications. Most importantly, you will be passionate about securing the best possible outcomes for children and young people and in supporting and challenging schools to develop ambitious plans for success.

All Inspectors serve as part of the wider Hsis team and support all team operations. The post-holder may also be asked to take on other responsibilities in accordance with interests, experience and further professional development. An additional interest in SEND would be an advantage but is not essential.

If you are passionate about improving the outcomes for children and young people, we would love to hear from you.

Closing date: Monday 1st February 2021 at 9am.

Shortlisting date: Monday 1st February 2021.

Interview date: Thursday 4th February 2021.

Interview arrangements will be confirmed with shortlisted applicants.

Interested applicants should complete the Havering application form and provide a supporting statement no longer than 2 sides of A4 detailing the skills and experience you can bring to this role. CVs will not be accepted.
