Job overview

This role is based in the UK and will be working on site in our UK based College. 

In order to comply with our mandatory pre-employment checks, the successful candidate will be required to provide original identification documents in person to our UK based HR Team

BACKGROUND TO THE POST

The appointed person will need to provide practical instruction at relevant industry standards. You will work closely with lecturing teaching staff and this will include providing practical support, instruction, training and supervision to students in practical subjects both on an individual and group basis. The person will also be responsible for the preparation of materials and maintenance of resources for practical tasks.

We ensure that provision is learner focused, which leads to academic excellence, high quality learning and an outstanding student experience which reflects the commercial focused curriculum delivery model and contributes to the achievement of the College’s strategic and development plans.

Instructor Technicians are not expected to: 

• To teach theory.

• To write schemes of work.

• To deal with knowledge based assessment. 

• To mark work outside of the practical setting.

Essential Attainments:

✓A qualification at Level 3 in a relevant subject to Horticulture or significant experience of working with a horticultural role/background.

✓GCSE Grade C or above in English and Mathematics, or Level 2 equivalent qualification

✓PTTLS teaching qualification or a willingness to achieve within the first 12 months of employment.

✓Assessor Awards (A1), equivalent, or willingness to work towards and achieve.

✓Recent relevant vocational or commercial experience.

✓Experience of working effectively with young people from a variety of backgrounds with challenging behaviours.

✓Experience of working with people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.

Desirable Attainments:

✓Experience of planning, organising and completing practical projects.

✓Experience of training/assessing in a variety of settings including work. 

Essential Skills and Knowledge:

✓Ability to plan, prioritise and organise workload. 

✓Ability to maintain an appropriate record system(s) for recording and monitoring information. 

✓Ability to work without direct supervision and manage the duties and workload of the post on a day-to-day basis.

✓Ability to work in a non-confrontational manner with young people. 

✓Ability to be innovative and enterprising in the delivery of qualifications.

✓Ability to promote differentiated activities to engage disaffected young people.

✓Ability to operate as a team member.

✓Knowledge of Health and Safety related to community projects. 

✓Commitment to equal opportunities and leaner success. 

✓Ability to interact in a professional and supportive manner with a range of subjects, clients and staff at all levels in the College, awarding organisations and the local community. 

✓Excellent interpersonal skills. 

✓Flexible approach to work, self-motivated and able to motivate others. 

✓A driving license free of major endorsements and the use of a motor vehicle or the ability to find alternative means to travel and attend business related activities that would satisfy the recruiting panel. 

✓Commitment to equality and diversity. 

✓Possession of mini-bus driving license or willingness to obtain one

✓First aid qualified or willingness to gain this qualification. 

✓Ability to demonstrate behaviours, which support the Core Values of the College.

✓Ability to demonstrate an understanding and knowledge of safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults.
