Job overview

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Lead integration of quality early childhood and parenting services.

2. Engage all sections of the community in decision making for early childhood and parenting services.

3. Provide high level advice on integration of early childhood and parenting services to stakeholders and clients including school management and staff.

4. Monitor program initiatives and services to ensure the effective integration of services and achievement of outcomes.

5. Provide leadership of the operational aspects of the Child and Family Centre and Ngukurr Preschool including compliance with the National Quality Framework.

6. Lead capacity building and professional learning of Indigenous staff. 

7. Support the seamless transition of young children between early childhood and parenting services including preschool and school. 


Selection Criteria

Essential:

1. High level interpersonal, negotiation and communication skills with demonstrated ability to influence, engage and manage multiple stakeholders to maximise organisational performance.

2. Capacity to manage and coordinate a range of multidisciplinary teams supporting children and families through effective program planning, delivery and continuous improvement.

3. A sound knowledge and understanding of the national policy issues associated with the education sector and Education and Care Services National Law and Regulations and an understanding of their application at the local level.

4. Demonstrated ability to engage and work with children and families and interact effectively with people from diverse cultures. 

5. Ability to work with a high degree of autonomy 


Desirable:

1. Registered or ability to register with Teachers Registration Board of the Northern Territory, and with recognised early childhood qualification or substantial current knowledge and experience in this field.

2. Possess Cert 4 in training and assessment.

Teachers in the NT teach some 33 000 children in 153 government schools spread across 1.35 million square kilometres. Schools are grouped into six regions:

  • Darwin: 28 schools
  • Top End: 35 schools
  • Big Rivers: 28 schools
  • East Arnhem: 13 schools
  • Barkly: 13 schools
  • Central: 36 schools


Of the 153 government schools, 73% are located in remote and very remote areas, with 46% of the NT’s total student population attending those remote schools.

Some 44% of all our students in the NT speak a language other than English at home.
