THE ROYAL BALLET SCHOOL

The Royal Ballet School is made up of the Lower and Upper Schools. The Upper School houses and educates students aged 16-19 and is situated in Covent Garden. Almost all of the graduating students go on to gain dance contracts with classical dance companies within the UK and around the world. The Lower School, situated at White Lodge in Richmond Park houses and educates students aged 11-16.The Royal Ballet School is a unique place, our mission statement ‘to nurture, train and educate exceptional young dancers for the Royal Ballet companies and other leading UK and international companies and to inspire the future of classical ballet training’ sums up the atmosphere completely. Whilst we are proud of our place in the birth and development of classical ballet in the UK we are mindful of the need to move forward.

WHITE LODGE

The Lower School is situated in the most stunning location. Although barely 10 miles from the centre of London (and Heathrow Airport) it occupies White Lodge, the former hunting Lodge of George 1 in the famous Richmond Park. There are wonderful views across 2500 acres of parkland and of the large numbers of red and fallow deer which inhabit the park. Much of the student’s spare time is taken up with dance related activities. However there are facilities for swimming, tennis, netball, football etc on site, and there are regular trips in the evenings and at weekends to other sporting and cultural venues.
