The Internal Exclusion Unit is a new provision at Leeds East Academy designed to address and overcome a range of barriers to learning/engagement. The Internal Exclusion Unit will cater for a very small number of students who have failed to adhere to the academy behaviour policy. Students who are required to attend this provision will do so for a short period of time before returning to mainstream lessons. Throughout their time in the provision, students will reflect on their behaviours and receive behaviour modification support.

In this role you will supervise the day to day running of the provision and will co-ordinate work that has been sent from relevant subject areas to ensure a smooth transition back to mainstream lessons.

General Duties and Responsibilities:

•     To provide continuous supervision of the students within the Exclusion Unit, ensuring that they work productively and safely. 

•     To encourage students to reflect on their behaviour and to accept responsibility for their actions.

•     To log behaviour referral’s on SIMs, complete a daily behaviour log and contribute to a half termly behaviour report.

•     To liaise with subject teachers when appropriate, gaining key information about units of work in order to provide work that is age and ability appropriate for students in the isolation room.

•     To ensure that the Internal Exclusion Unit procedures are adhered to and that the room is well maintained, neat and tidy.

•     Implement all Academy policies with regard to registration, student absence, student uniform, use of planners and other routines detailed in the staff handbook

Other duties:

Manage, motivate and engage pupils who have a range of social, emotional and behaviour issues.

Support students in the completion of work that they have missed from lessons ensuing a smooth transition back to mainstream lessons.

Manage learners’ behaviour constructively by establishing and maintaining a clear and positive framework for behaviour management, in line with the Academy’s behaviour policy.

Set high expectations for pupils, ensuring that they can achieve their full educational potential through the establishment of fair, respectful, trusting supportive and constructive relationships with them

To plan and deliver behaviour modification programmes for groups of targeted students and individual students who have barriers to learning.

To assist the inclusion team in coordinating the re-integration of pupils back into mainstream lessons following prolonged periods of absence or internal exclusion

To support identified students and address any barrier they may have in maximising their learning outcomes through mentoring and coaching.

Cover and support the running of Moved room/Seclusion/on call and any other pastoral duties as designated by the Behaviour Leadership Team.

Attend academy meetings and training as directed by your Team Leader.

Attend appropriate courses for personal professional development.

To be responsible for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of students.
