Job overview

We are looking to hire casual Exam Invigilators for various exam periods to help to supervise the conduct of students in examinations at Grove Academy. Hours of work will be as notified in advance by the Examinations Officer.

The role:

Exam Invigilators play a vital role throughout the academic year supporting internal and external examinations for all year groups at the academy. The role requires you to be patient and supportive of students whilst adhering to the JCQ guidance for examinations.

Invigilation may be in a hall venue with a whole year group supported by other colleagues or, on occasion, in a small room venue supporting more vulnerable students. There will be two or more ‘examination periods’ throughout the year, some being internal examinations alongside the key period of mid-May to mid-June for the GCSE examinations.

Basic Responsibilities:

• Monitoring students to ensure that there is no malpractice during the exam.

• Distributing stationery and exam papers to the students.

• Ensuring that exam conditions are adhered to at all times.

• Preparing the exam hall and other exam rooms to ensure that it meets requirements.

• Providing support where necessary should an emergency arise e.g. sick student, fire evacuation.

• Answering any queries that a student may have about the exam.

Applications without a supporting statement will not be considered.

We reserve the right to close this vacancy prior to the closing date if a suitable candidate is found.

Grove Academy is committed to safeguarding children and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All successful candidates will be subject to Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks along with other relevant employment checks.

Grove Academy is the first all-through school to open in Slough and provides opportunity and education for 4 to 16 year olds, underpinned by high-quality teaching and learning and a common assessment framework. This continuity ensures that we can avoid the dips in performance associated with transition from one phase or school to another.

As one school we are able to teach subjects to our younger children via specialist subject teachers, such as modern foreign languages and PE. We can provide pastoral care for children in challenging circumstances by offering a ‘joined-up’ strategy and support families more consistently over a longer time.

Staff say - "I am proud to be a staff member at Grove"

Parents say - "We are really happy and proud that our child goes to Grove Academy"

Our Vision, Aims & Ethos:

Grove Academy is a school where every child can feel welcome, successful and included. We want our pupils to:

· Be responsible, fully active citizens who are kind to one another, ready to learn, know how to keep themselves safe and are proud of their achievements

· Develop the confidence to participate in decision making, and have a creative input across the three areas of family well-being, public service and contribution to the economy

· Engage in a curriculum which will encourage problem solving, critical reflection, research and challenge

· Leave school confident in their ability to succeed and able to successfully access the  world of work or further/higher education

· Be able to learn new skills and engage in business markets that no one is yet able to define
