Job overview

The British Georgian Academy (BGA) is looking to recruit dynamic and committed teachers to join our unique independent school as we enter an exciting new phase of development.  BGA was founded in 2006.  We have current role of 450 students; most of whom are Georgian as is the majority of our teaching staff.  We are a bilingual academy using both Georgian and English as our language of instruction.  We deliver the Georgian National Curriculum enhanced by additional learning content from the National Curriculum for England.  The IPC ensures cohesive schemes of work are collaboratively produced to include opportunities for life-long learning.  A carefully designed pastoral care system, attention to diverse and stimulating teaching methods and an extensive extra-curricular programme are some of the other ways in which BGA ensures a holistic education.  We value each and every member of our community and welcome applicants who feel they can positively contribute to our ethos and environment.

Currently, BGA is undergoing IB accreditation and aims to open the Diploma Programme for students in September 2021.  For this reason, we are looking to recruit flexible and motivated teachers who are prepared to help design and implement the IB curriculum and re-align their subject-specific content across the primary, middle and high school.  Candidates who can recognise and contribute to school-wide initiatives that support purposeful, practical, holistic, life-long learning are encouraged to apply .

The successful candidate will have recent UK and/or international experience, be highly motivated, well organised and possess recognised UK teaching qualifications (or equivalent internationally recognised qualifications).  An understanding of the benefits and challenges of living in a rapidly developing country is an advantage.  The successful candidate will join a team of enthusiastic and committed staff in this highly popular and well-regarded school.

Staff at BGA enjoy a stimulating, supportive working environment and the opportunity to live in a beautiful and fascinating country.  BGA shares a campus with the British International School of Tbilisi (BIST) each enjoying state of the art facilities with views of Lake Lisi and the surrounding mountains.  Pay and conditions compare very well with the UK and other international schools in the region with benefits including a low cost of living and high savings potential, housing allowance, annual air ticket to your home country and full medical cover.

Please submit a completed BGA application form and supporting letter by Friday 6th December 2019 to recruitment@bga.ge.

Candidates will be formally interviewed via Skype and have the opportunity for an informal skype discussion prior to this if requested. We encourage early applications as we will begin initial interviews prior to the deadline.  BGA reserves the right to appoint before the closing date if a desirable candidate is found.

More detailed information can be found (in Georgian) on the school’s website www.bga.ge.  You can view our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/BritishGeorgianAcademy/.  The facilities of both schools and additional information (in English) can be found at www.bist.ge.  Both schools share the same Directorate and similar educational philosophies.  For the most part, information on the BIST website regarding aims, mission and vision statements applies to BGA; curriculum delivery being the key difference as BIST is a NCfE, IGCSE and A Level establishment.

The British Georgian Academy is committed to safeguarding children and young people. All post holders are subject to appropriate vetting procedures, including checks with past employers and a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service check. Our safeguarding and safer recruitment policies are shared with all prospective candidates.

The British Georgian Academy is the leading independent school in Georgia offering an international education for Georgian nationals and international students. The school is a co-educational institution, providing an all through education for over 500 students aged from 3 to 18 years of age. We follow an international curriculum using the Cambridge International Curriculum in our primary and secondary sections and offering the option of the Georgian National Diploma or IB Diploma in our senior section.

BGA is a learning focused school. As one of the most-established independent schools in Georgia we hold a well-respected reputation within the country and a growing reputation in the wider community. We aim to offer our students access to a high quality education, that allows them to graduate with the tools they need to be the best version of themselves and forge a successful future, be that within Georgia, Europe and the US or beyond. Our mission is to be an institution that means an education with BGA, ensures there are no barriers to whatever passions, purpose and direction our students choose to follow.

The school caters for a majority of Georgian nationals and a significant minority of mixed-nationality students who want to maintain both their Georgian identity and values whilst also developing themselves as global citizens able to access higher education institutions in-country and internationally.

We share a campus with our sister school, the British International School Tbilisi, with both schools enjoying impressive facilities that enrich learning and add to the high-value educational experience that we offer BGA students.
