Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic and reliable person to join the College as an apprentice to achieve a qualification at level 3 as an IT Infrastructure Technician.  The apprentice will be supported by an external tutor from the institute for apprenticeships and technical education.  The Infrastructure Technician details of standard and entry requirements can be found on the Institute for Apprenticeships website:   www.instituteforapprenticeships.org/apprenticeship-standards/infrastructure-technician/   The duration of the course is anticipated to be 12 months and there will be scope for further development and employment at the College depending on suitability.   

The apprentice will be working closely with the Network Supervisor assisting in the day-to-day running of the College network, providing help to both staff and student users.  The successful candidate will also work closely with the MIS Manager assisting with the management of the College’s administration databases and providing support to staff and student users.  The role will suit someone who enjoys working as part of a team but who also has the confidence and independence to work on their own initiative. The successful candidate will require good communication skills, excellent interpersonal and organisational skills, and plenty of enthusiasm.

The College network environment consists of 500 PCs and laptops in staff offices, classrooms, the Library and Learning Zone running Microsoft Windows 10 and Office 2019. We have over 20 virtualised servers running Windows Server 2012. The College has several internet-based systems including a virtual learning environment (Woodle) and a student and parent portal (e-ST Dashboard) which are packages based on SQL Server 2012 data. The College makes extensive use of SQL Server Reporting Services, Access and Excel to produce management information. 

The salary will be set at £220 per week in the first instance.  This will be reviewed and re-considered according to progress and development during the probationary period.  The College offers a minimum of 25 days of annual leave, plus 8 paid bank holidays and an annual Christmas closure period.
