Job overview

Contract Type: 3 year Secondment from September 2023 to August 2026

Teach West London is the Teaching School Hub serving Ealing, Harrow, Hillingdon and Hounslow. Its vision is to empower schools to achieve the highest standards for students through effective classroom practice and school leadership. It has consciously developed a model of local partnership working and aimed to build capacity within partner schools. Since it opened in September 2021, it has been highly successful in engaging with schools across the four boroughs (as well extending its reach nationally in some areas). Over 300 schools currently make use of its networks either as part of the Early Careers Teacher programme and/or the National Professional Qualifications both of which it delivers in partnership with UCL. It also delivers some stand-alone CPD training in core curriculum areas and SEN.

In September 2022 Teach West London, working closely with Hillingdon and London West Alliance SCITTs, was successful in achieving accreditation as an ITT provider under the new guidelines. We will therefore start recruiting trainees in the Autumn Term of 2023 in readiness for the September 2024 launch. The Hub is also preparing to take over the Appropriate Body role from September 2023.

The successful ITT accreditation gives opportunity for an extension to the team. Therefore Teach West London is seeking to appoint two ITT Phase Leads – one Primary and one Secondary – on a 3-year Secondment basis from September 2023 to August 2026. In both cases the roles require solid experience of teaching across the full age and ability range as well as successful experience of mentoring initial trainee teachers or early career teachers.

The roles have been created to support the set-up and run the new Initial Teacher Training programme following TWL’s successful accreditation. You will bring a passion for training new teachers and experience of current school curriculum frameworks and content. The role will involve working with the Head of Teach West London and the Director of ITT to ensure all elements of the programme are in place in the readiness for the delivery phase and ensure all arrangements are in place for delivery starting in September 2024. The roles will require liaison with schools within the network as well as providing training to school-based mentors and the organisation of intensive placements.

You will have:

  • A good degree and Qualified Teacher Status
  • National Professional Qualification for Leading Teacher Development (NPQLTD) – desirable
  • Strong knowledge and experience of current school curriculum frameworks and content
  • Successful experience of leading a Curriculum area /whole school responsibility area
  • Successful experience of mentoring initial trainee teachers or early career teachers
  • Ability to be reflective and driven towards self-improvement
  • A commitment to the ethos of the school, the Trust and Teach West London.

About Twyford Church of England Academies Trust (TCEAT)

The Twyford Church of England Academies Trust (TCEAT) is a Multi Academy Trust which comprises four secondary schools in the London Borough of Ealing. The Trust was established in October 2011 to enable our heavily oversubscribed existing school, Twyford CE High School, to build on its successes and look outward to the large number of parents who were eager to become part of its community.

Over a 10-year period it launched three new schools Ealing Fields, William Perkin and Ada Lovelace all of which have achieved progress outcomes ranking them in the top 1% of schools nationally, making TCEAT the highest performing Trust in the UK including the progress made by disadvantaged students. TCEAT aims to deliver outstanding education in a comprehensive school setting and embraces the Trust motto ‘Life in all its fullness’, encouraging students to use their individual gifts wisely and well. Supported by the London Diocesan Board for Schools (LDBS), TCEAT operates on collaborative principles with some central services to achieve consistency of provision.

The Trust has a highly evolved common curriculum running through years 7-13, which has been devised by staff within the four schools. It has thriving post-16 provision, including both A-Levels and T-Levels, and is heavily oversubscribed. Music plays a significant role in the spiritual life of the TCEAT schools and pastoral systems are strong.

The Trust also runs Teach West London, a Teaching School Hub for teacher training and development with outreach to over 330 schools across Ealing, Harrow, Hillingdon and Hounslow. More recently, TCEAT partnered with Oak National Academy to develop their English Secondary curriculum and produce high-quality resources for pupils in years 7–11. Following this success, a further partnership has evolved with Cam Academy Trust to support them with developing the MFL Curriculum for Oak. This is in collaboration with the Thames West Language Hub, which is an NCLE Language Hub run by TCEAT which aims to support high quality language education and high uptake of language learning in the local community. More information can be found on the TCEAT website: https://twyfordacademies.org.uk/
