Job overview

We are seeking to appoint a part-time Japanese Language Assistant to work in our highly successful Modern Languages department. We are looking for a native-level Japanese speaker who will be able to share their passion for their language and culture with our pupils, with the aim of improving their spoken Japanese and cultural awareness.

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to build on the strong foundations for Japanese existing at the college now for over 20 years. We have excellent Level 1 SEG and GCSE results and you will be able to contribute to maintaining this high standard.

The applicant would also have the opportunity to work with the Japanese Teacher, supporting the development of students’ spoken ability in the language. We are also currently advertising for a Teacher of Japanese. The details of this post feature in a separate advert. Both the Language Assistant and the Teacher roles can be combined for the appropriate candidate. Please make it clear on your application form if you are applying for both roles.

The post is paid at an hourly rate of £17.99 (which includes holiday pay). The successful candidate can expect to have around 6 hours a week contact time with pupils during term time. Please note that the number of hours is dependent on the numbers taking Japanese and so may vary from year to year. This is a fixed-term contract which will end on 31 May 2021.

As a college committed to equal opportunities, we positively welcome applications from all sections of the community. The college and all its personnel are committed to safeguarding the welfare of children and young people. This post is subject to a Disclosure Application of the appropriate level to the Disclosure and Barring Service.

Applicants must complete the college’s application form and a pack is available on our website www.aquinas.ac.uk or alternatively by email recruitment@aquinas.ac.uk

Closing date for completed applications midday Friday 25th June 2021. Interviews may be held at short notice.

Ofsted

“Governors and college staff promote an inclusive and welcoming environment. A strong ethos of mutual respect is evident across the college in lessons and in communal areas. Behaviour is very good in lessons. Teaching, learning and assessment are of a good standard across most programmes of study. Most learners make good progress in lessons and are developing necessary academic and technical skills.”
