Job overview

Help our students to achieve success in the Japanese language

Royal Russell is an HMC/IAPS co-educational school with over 1000 pupils between the ages of 3 and 18, situated on a beautiful green campus of 110 acres in the Shirley Hills near Croydon. We have over 150 boarding students in the Senior School, and are proud of our day and boarding facilities that rank amongst the best in the South of England. Our pupils, parents and staff experience a warm and friendly environment with strong pastoral care for every pupil alongside a comprehensive co-curricular and enrichment programme. We aim to build on this alongside improving academic success to continue to be the family school of choice in South London. The Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) has recently judged the school as ‘excellent’ in all areas.

We are looking for a well-qualified and enthusiastic graduate tutor / teacher of Japanese to deliver one to one and small group tutoring from beginner through GCSE to A level, and occasionally to JLPT Level 2. Public Exam results have been excellent and we would like to maintain this high standard. This is a part-time post and the hours will vary depending on student numbers but are likely to be in the region of a 0.6 fte position. We anticipate that hours will increase in the future as demand is increasing for this subject.

Japanese is studied by a small but growing band of dedicated students both within the main curriculum at GCSE and A level as well as part of the co-curriculum. A beginners group runs on Wednesdays between 4-5pm from which emerge those students who wish to take the subject further.

The school has a 15 year long link with a High School in Japan through its Model United Nations Programme. They visit our International MUN Conference every year.

Our ideal applicant will be a confident, friendly and well-organised individual, preferably with experience of tutoring Japanese language to small groups of students, or on a one-to-one basis. Above all you should have a proven track record of supporting young people to succeed.

We offer excellent benefits that include a 50% discount on School fees, immediate non-contributory pension and free life cover, free car parking, free lunch and the use of our strength and conditioning room, on-site tennis courts and swimming pool.
