Job overview

JFS is a thriving school with nearly 2,000 students and in the last available national tables, the Sunday Times school rankings placed the school fifth in the country for academic performance. Alongside its national success, it is however, also a school that has been through a turbulent period within the year following a Special Measures by OfSTED in May 2021. At the time, OfSTED said that the school failed to create a culture of openness and mutual respect and it is our hope that this could now be no further from the truth. Working with Sir Michael Wilshaw and Dame Joan McVittie, the school has seen a radical overhaul of its processes and the safeguarding team has since been commended through a range of external reviews.

The response of the school to the OfSTED report has been to relentlessly seek improvement rather than question decisions and that approach is something that the school will embody going forward. With the recent appointment of David Moody who previously led Harris Battersea from Special Measures to Outstanding and has also worked as Regional Director for Academies Enterprise Trust, there is now a wealth of experience in the school and JFS will not rest until it is truly exceptional.

Of the highest priority in that pursuit is the appointment of exceptional staff. In seeking people to join us we are looking for highly driven, passionate, caring and intellectually curious staff who wish to work with us to define what state education should be at its very best. With a Sixth Form cohort of over 500 incredible students, the school will be built around academic challenge in every lesson and in every classroom alongside superb pastoral care to ensure that students leave us ready to lead happy lives and with as many doors as possible open to them.

We are looking to appoint an experienced, enthusiastic, creative and organised individual to promote the students' sense of Jewish identity, as well as interest and involvement in and commitment to Judaism, through positive and challenging learning experiences and to embed social action and charity within JiEP.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Plan, organise and implement programmes

• Create and facilitate events for identified groups of students within the School

• Assist with the implementation and participation within Informal Jewish Education activities for specific Year Groups or whole-school events

• Help to devise and organise programmes/events and implement them outside of the school day, e.g. Shabbatonim, Visits, Residential Trips (ATOI, Poland etc.) and participating on those programmes/events where possible

• Develop the charity wing of the school, making it a key element of JFS school life

• Engage the students across the school in regular, meaningful and educationally enriching social action programmes including regular volunteering opportunities, visits, charitable activities and special projects

• Support the Head of JiEP/Head of Jewish Studies to enhancing our diversity/multi-faith education programme.

Applications from candidates of faith or non-faith backgrounds are most welcome.

Closing date for applications: noon on Friday, 26 August 2022
