Job overview

Junior School Class Teacher

Closing Date: 6th September 2019

Start Date: 1st August 2020

An exciting and unique opportunity has arisen for a well-qualified and inspirational Junior School Class Teacher.

Founded in partnership between NLCS (UK) and Sobha, North London Collegiate School [Singapore] will open its doors in August 2020.   We are excited to be bringing the ambitious and inspirational NLCS ethos to the dynamic and exciting location of Singapore.

The School will provide the same impressive range of extra-curricular activities for which North London Collegiate School (UK), NLCS Jeju and NLCS Dubai, are well known, to foster the holistic development of well-rounded individuals.

The school will be purpose built, boasting impressive, state-of-the-art facilities; construction is already underway and on target for completion in February 2020.

NLCS [Singapore] is seeking dynamic, energetic, well qualified and highly committed Junior School teachers, who can deliver the full range of subjects for Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 (ages 5 to 11) in a way that is integrated, stimulates inquiry and sets high standards for students. The post holder should have a sound knowledge and understanding of the National Curriculum and the  Primary Years Programme.

As experienced Form Teachers, the post holders must have experience in fostering a caring atmosphere and show commitment to the well-being, social and academic progress of each student. The appointee will report to the Deputy Head (Head of First School) and ultimately, to the Vice Principal (Head of Junior School).

The successful candidate will be the Form Teacher of a class and will be responsible for their well-being, and teaching and learning; assisted by a shared full-time teaching assistant. Languages, Music, PE and (in the older years) Art and Science are taught by specialist teachers. The appointee will also be responsible for organising the work of the teaching assistant and will be a member of the First or Lower School teams, sharing responsibilities for curriculum display, performances and organising some aspects of special events. All teachers will work closely with the Primary Years Programme (PYP) Coordinator, who is the curriculum leader of provision in the Primary Years.

Previous experience of the PYP programme would be an advantage, and of prime importance is an ability to motivate and inspire pupils to ensure that academic provision is consistently of the highest standard. In keeping with the School’s pastoral policy and the School’s aims and values, the appointee will offer support to the learning and pastoral needs of individual pupils, where required.

We believe that NLCS [Singapore] represents a unique opportunity for teachers. We offer a competitive salary and benefits package including accommodation allowance, annual flights, health insurance, and free places at the school for up to two dependent children. We also provide first-class professional development through the established NLCS educational community and a variety of external providers.  An annual HSBC report has named Singapore as the best location in the world for expatriates to live and work, for four consecutive years.

Whilst we enjoy excellent facilities in a prime location, it is our people that will make our School such an inspirational place. If you are interested in joining our team please submit a completed application form, an up to date CV, and a covering letter of application that focuses on your personal educational philosophy.  Applications should be emailed to recruitment@nlcssingapore.sg .

The deadline for applications is 6th September 2019. However, please note that an appointment may be made prior to the closing date if an exceptional candidate is found.

NLCS [Singapore] is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and we expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. This post is subject to satisfactory enhanced background checks.
