Job overview

The Portsmouth Grammar School is a leading co-educational school located in the historic heart of Portsmouth.

We are very much a family school and are pleased to offer an education across the age range. Our Pre-School for 2½ to 4-year-olds, the Junior School for children aged 4 to 11 and a Senior School for students aged 11 to 18, are all dedicated to helping children thrive and to reach their potential.

We have 3 vacancies in KS2 for full time Form Teachers from September 2023. Applications are welcomed from well qualified, ambitious and forward thinking candidates.

Additional opportunities as a Head of Year or Core Subject Lead (Mathematics) may be available for suitably qualified and experienced candidates. A role without additional management responsibility or core subject lead responsibility will also be available and we welcome applications from ECTs as well as more experienced teachers.

The successful candidates will deliver inspirational teaching and learning and exceptional pastoral care within a caring, supportive and inclusive environment. All teachers lead a curriculum area or aspect of the Junior School provision and therefore play an active and significant role in school development and improvement. Experience of having taught a curriculum area and the ability to demonstrate current and effective teaching practice within the subject would be an advantage. In addition, we are looking for candidates who are willing to teach one or two afternoons of games, although previous experience in teaching games is not a pre-requisite and all necessary CPD will be provided as required.

There is an expectation that teachers will also be able to teach other Forms and year groups throughout their area of the school as required by the Head of Junior School.

The role of Form Teacher (Junior Department) reports to the Head of the Junior School and classes are supported by Teaching Assistants. PGS offers excellent facilities and small class sizes so that teachers can support pupils as effectively as possible.

A supportive structure and professional development programme enables teachers to undertake regular and relevant CPD, enhancing their own skills and knowledge and deepening their understanding of how children learn.

How to apply:

Candidates are asked to apply either through the link on our PGS website www.pgs.org.uk or alternatively by using the online form linked to our advert here on www.tes.com.

Any informal enquires about the role or how to apply are very welcome at hr@pgs.org.uk

The closing date will be 12 noon on Monday 30th January 2023 and early applications are welcomed.

Interviews will be scheduled on Monday 6th and Tuesday 7th February 2023 and candidates are asked to allow a whole day for the interview process.
