We are excited to be able to offer an opportunity to join our School as an SENDCO within our Junior School four Years 1-3.

In the Junior School there is a full and rich curriculum, balancing the traditional subjects of English, Maths and Science alongside the creative and physical elements of school life.  All pupils learn in different ways and we strive to cater for all learning styles by encouraging independent thinking, and allowing pupils to learn through experience and express themselves in all forms of communication. There is a strong emphasis at this stage on developing strength and confidence in reading, writing and numeracy to create a firm foundation to build upon as the pupils’ progress through the School. This feeds naturally into other subjects such as History, Geography, Science and Religious Studies, where we encourage and embrace the curiosity in the pupils to find out for themselves more about the world around them.  Lessons are also taught in Art, Design Technology, Music, Drama, French, ICT and Games. As the children grow older a larger part of the curriculum is delivered by subject specialists.

The SEND department is managed by the Head of SEND and there is a SENDCO with all our phases, working closely to continuously develop the SEND provisions of the School and help and support children with special education needs.   We believe inclusion to be of the upmost importance for all children.

Becoming part of the Devonshire House family will also require you to continuously strive to create a culture of high standards and improvements in all areas of school life as a member of the School and wider professional staff body, and to forge positive professional relationships, conduct oneself in a professional manner and model the aims and ethos of Devonshire House School to make positive contributions.

We are an equal opportunities employer and we believe a diverse school enriches our community.  We strive to ensure that the school community understands that mental health is ‘everyone’s business’ and we strive to create an environment that has a whole school approach in providing excellent mental health support whilst developing enthusiasm, initiative and a strong sense of personal responsibility.

If Devonshire House sounds like an environment you would be passionate about working in, please read our job description and specification for further information and apply.  Use the supporting statement section in the application form to tell us why you would be a good match for our school and this position.

Devonshire House Preparatory School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We expect all prospective employees, staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All candidates undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with previous employers, the Disclosure and Barring Service and overseas criminal checks for all countries in which the candidate has lived or worked in for three months or more since the age of 18.

All candidates must be qualified to teach, work and live in the UK to apply.
