JOB DESCRIPTION: KS2 CLASS TEACHER

FULL-TIME OR PART-TIME CONSIDERED

Required for September 2024

An enthusiastic and inspirational teacher is required to teach literacy and numeracy to boys aged 7 to 8 (Year 3) to the levels required by a Central London prep school that prepares its pupils for ISEB Common Pre-Tests (Year 6)/Common Entrance(Year 8)/Eton & St Paul's scholarships (Year 8).


The successful candidate will join St Philip's at an exciting time as it begins to take pupils from the age of 4 for the first time in addition to its traditional age range of 7 to 13.

BACKGROUND OF THE SCHOOL

Independent prep school for boys in Years 3 to 8, founded in 1934 and located on its foundation site in South Kensington. Set to expand into EYFS provision from September 2024.

Responsibilities   

• To teach English, Mathematics and Humanities to boys in Year 3.

• To teach Games (football, rugby, cricket/athletics) to boys in Years 3 to 8, as required.

• To set and mark internal exams as well as to mark entrance papers for prospective pupils. 

• To review boys’ progress at regular intervals in line with the School’s policies. 

• To attend parent/teacher meetings.

• To compile end-of-term reports, as required.

• To attend internal meetings.


General   

• Duty to promote and safeguard the welfare of the boys.

• Acting as a form tutor for a small group of boys, overseeing their day-to-day pastoral development and communicating with their parents. 

• Supervision duties, as required.

• Organisation of a school trip, termly.

• Provision of an after-school activity (4.00pm to 5.00pm). 


Person Specification 

The successful applicant will have the following qualities:     

• Ability to teach English and Mathematics to a high standard to boys in Year 3.

• Ability to teach across a wide ability range. 

• Ability to inspire boys in finding enjoyment in their learning and to guide boys in laying strong foundations for their learning in Key Stage 2 and 3.

• A good level of competency in the use of IT in the classroom and beyond.

• Willingness to contribute to the life of a busy, happy and ambitious London day school on a wide variety of fronts 

• Ability to be supportive of the School’s Catholic ethos.

• Ability to teach Games in a traditional boys' prep setting - football, rugby and cricket - is preferable. 

• Ability to teach Art and/or a modern foreign language across age ranges is preferable. 


Flexibility

This job description reflects the main responsibilities of the post. However, the post holder should be willing to undertake any other reasonable duties as required by the Head Master.


Hours 

This job is full time. The School opens from Monday to Friday at 8.00am and closes at 5.00pm. A part time position for the preferred candidate will be considered.
