Job overview

Together, be the best we can be

At Kettlethorpe High School, we believe every young person deserves the opportunity to thrive, achieve and become the best they can be. We are seeking an exceptional teacher and leader to join our ambitious and dedicated team as a Key Stage Progress Leader. This is a rewarding opportunity for a passionate educator who is committed to raising standards, championing inclusion and making a lasting difference to the lives of young people.

As a Key Stage Progress Leader, you will play a pivotal role in shaping both the academic and personal success of students within your allocated year groups. You will provide strategic leadership for student progress, attendance, behaviour, wellbeing and pastoral care, ensuring that every student is known, supported, challenged and inspired to succeed.

We are looking for a dynamic leader who combines high expectations with compassion, and who is determined to ensure that all students, regardless of background or circumstance, can achieve their full potential.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is an outstanding classroom practitioner with Qualified Teacher Status (the ability to teach Child Development and Performing Arts would be an advantage but is not essential).

  • Has a proven commitment to securing excellent outcomes for young people.

  • Can inspire confidence, build strong relationships and lead others with integrity.

  • Has the vision and drive to remove barriers to learning and promote achievement for every student.

  • Understands the importance of effective pastoral leadership in supporting academic success.

  • Has the resilience, ambition and determination to contribute to whole-school improvement.

In this role, you will:

  • Provide strategic leadership for student progress, achievement and wellbeing.

  • Lead and develop a team of form tutors to deliver an exceptional pastoral experience.

  • Use data intelligently to identify priorities and drive impactful interventions.

  • Work closely with families, colleagues and external agencies to support students’ success.

  • Champion attendance, positive attitudes to learning and high standards of behaviour.

  • Lead targeted strategies to ensure all students, particularly disadvantaged and vulnerable learners, achieve their potential.

Why join Kettlethorpe High School?

This is an exciting time to join a school that is ambitious for its students, staff and community. We offer:

  • A welcoming and inclusive school where relationships matter.

  • Enthusiastic students who are eager to learn and succeed.

  • A culture built on high expectations, support and collaboration.

  • Outstanding opportunities for professional development and leadership growth.

  • A commitment to staff wellbeing and work/life balance.

  • The chance to make a genuine difference every day.

This post would suit an aspiring or existing middle leader who is ready to take the next step in their leadership journey and play a key role in shaping the future of our students.

If you are passionate about educational excellence, committed to ensuring every child succeeds, and excited by the opportunity to lead with impact, we would love to hear from you.

Join us and help every student be the best they can be!

About Kettlethorpe High School

Kettlethorpe High School is a large comprehensive school in Wakefield, West Yorkshire. We have 1,700 pupils aged 11–16 and often see year group entries of between 330 to 360 pupils.

The school opened in 1965, and we have benefitted from considerable capital building improvements over the years. Recently, the school has had a new MFL block and sports studio built and also financed our own all-weather 3G pitch for school and community use.

Pupils benefit from a rich and broad curriculum offer. At Key Stage 4, our English Baccalaureate entry and actual figures are the very best in Wakefield. In 2021, the entry was 79% with 61% achieving passes across the EBacc suite of subjects. At this school, pupils succeed and do well. Progression rates are impressive.

Across the school, the wider life of the school and extra-curricular offer is second to none. Pupils and staff engage with a rich extra-curricular offer and we are very proud of our sports, arts and performing arts offer. It adds a real richness to our school community.

Our pupils are great and have lots to say about their school. They support and represent their community well. Over the last 9 years, they have raised over £103,000 for Children in Need. Most years, they raise between £10,000 and £15,000 for CiN and other charities.

Teachers at the school work hard to support all our pupils. They are proud of their successes and involvement with the school.

As a school community, we recognise that schools are more than just Ofsted judgements. We do what we do to benefit our pupil community first and foremost. That said, we are more than a ‘good’ school and valued the comment made by one lead inspector… ‘There is something very special going on at this school.’ We agree!
