Job overview

Scarborough College, a ‘Top 40’ UK independent school, seeks to appoint an inspiring, committed and innovatory Key Stage 1 class teacher for September.

Pupils at the College aged between 3 and 11 are educated within our high-achieving coeducational junior department, named Bramcote Junior School.

The School’s profile and philosophy on education make it a delightful environment in which to work. Its stand-out characteristics include: children who are highly motivated to learn, well-behaved and proud of their school; very small class sizes (the School has an average of 12 pupils per class); a talented team of happy and supportive staff; a well-resourced, modern and attractive purpose-built campus including top-grade sports facilities; specialist art, music and DT rooms; separate subject specialist teaching in maths, English, modern languages, sport and music; freedom from excessive assessment and testing, and lots of opportunities for career progression.

Bramcote Junior School feeds directly into Scarborough College at Year 7 entry. The College is a thriving small independent boarding and day school for girls and boys aged from 3 to 18 years. Formed in 1896, it is the leading school in the area regularly achieving table-topping public examination results and featuring strongly in the arenas of sport, music and drama. The College enjoys a sprawling campus on the beautiful south coastline of Scarborough with many sports pitches, a floodlit astro, a performing arts centre, a sports hall, and a neighbouring 18-hole golf course. The Junior School occupies its own building conjoined to the College allowing it access to all the College’s facilities.

The successful applicant will have a proven record in delivering inspiring primary level education very effectively. We seek a dynamic and creative teacher on the cutting edge of contemporary classroom pedagogy whose lessons challenge and enthuse all pupils, allowing them to make excellent progress and extending their talents and interests. The successful candidate will be keen to work collaboratively with colleagues and to play an active role in the life of this busy school. Pupils at the School excel in the extra-curricular arena and therefore each candidate’s interest and ability to be involved in our wide-ranging daily extra-curricular programme will be an important factor in the decision-making process.

The School’s salary scale is above that of the maintained sector and staff benefit from a significant fees reduction in respect of their children attending both Bramcote Junior School and Scarborough College.

Values and Vision

Above all, our commitment is to discover and fully realise every child’s potential by ensuring that all pupils are seen as individuals whose specific needs are recognised and met.  We are dedicated to providing a far-reaching education that goes beyond the boundaries of the classroom, underpinned by strong lifelong values, which inspires academic excellence and ensures pupils are challenged. Regular opportunities to understand their own capabilities through exposure to a broad range of sporting, cultural and creative activities, widens our pupils’ horizons and builds their self‑confidence.  Within our outward-facing, grounded and caring community the relationships that exist nurture tolerant, honest and compassionate people who will make a genuine difference in their futures beyond the confines of our school.

Ofsted

“Pupils achieve well in a school that they like. Pupils make good progress in the EYFS, the junior school and the senior school. Results in the GCSE, which have generally improved over recent years, show that pupils make good progress and sixth form pupils also attain good results in the International Baccalaureate (IB). Factors contributing to the pupils’ achievement are the very good attitudes to work which pupils bring to the classroom and the good teaching they receive.”
