About Freshwaters Primary Academy

Freshwaters Primary Academy joined BMAT on 1st September 2013. It is a co-educational 4-11 school, where pupils are encouraged to ‘be anything, dream anything, create anything, and become anything, because we believe in ourselves and in each other’.

Freshwaters Primary Academy may be our name, but everyone who knows the school regards us as The Freshwaters Family. Families who join the school remain with us year after year and we see siblings grow and develop at the school and revisit us once they have moved up to secondary schools. The school itself is growing and developing. A school that started as a one-form entry has become a two-form entry school which is oversubscribed in most year groups. Children join us in Nursery, which has recently changed to allow full-time places for up to 30 hours.

The school building is a horse-shoe shape, modern design, on one level and is set among fields and trees, giving our pupils an all-round learning environment. Our Reception and Nursery children have their own personal outdoor space, while older pupils have a climbing area and new outdoor gym!

The school is very lucky to have our own swimming pool which enables our children to establish this important life skill.

The school is undergoing an expansion programme which includes extending our kitchen area to provide healthy meals for all of our children. A further building has also been added to the grounds, which will include a small hall to be used for PE, performances and assemblies, a long-awaited library and a tech room to be used for science and cooking projects. The programme will also include a MUGA (Multi Universal Games Area) that can be used in all weathers and will promote our already very active PE programme.

Outside of school, our Parent Teacher Association are always very busy organising events to support and excite our families. Summer fetes, cinema evenings, quiz nights, discos and Santa visits are just some of the activities that form part of our busy schedule.

The teaching and support staff at Freshwaters are both committed and enthusiastic. Many of our staff members have been with the school for a number of years and the headteacher is determined to continue to develop the great work that is going on within the school and take the school forward on its journey of excellence.

Freshwaters offers children a broad and varied curriculum based around reading books. Each year group has a range of books which the children read throughout the term that are linked to other subjects. For example, a Year 2 pupil reading Meerkat Mail by Emily Gravett will travel around Africa, learning about the wildlife, countries, rivers and people of this continent. Children in Year 6 get to read A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens and discover this important author, what life was like in Victorian England and how things have changed throughout history.

As a school, Freshwaters is open, approachable and friendly. We pride ourselves in offering support, guidance and an experience that every child is entitled to and every child should benefit from.
