Message From The Principal Battle Primary School

I am delighted to share with existing and prospective families the final report from our recent Good Ofsted (May 2019). This represents a significant achievement and is credit to the hard work and commitment of staff who have worked in partnership with families and the community.

We are blessed with truly fantastic children and I feel privileged to be the leader of such a vibrant and diverse school which has progressed rapidly in recent years.

As a local resident, I care deeply about this community and I am determined to lead the school to new heights and foster a culture in which all children are nurtured and challenged as learners and individuals.

Whilst over subscribed for Reception 2019, we do have spaces in some year groups and welcome prospective families. We are happy to arrange a tour and share with you the range of opportunities we can offer.

I look forward to sharing our wonderful school with you.

About Battle Primary School

Battle is a mixed, non-selective, non-denominational primary school with nursery classes situated in Reading. It is part The Baylis Court Trust, an organisation which supports four academies.  As our family of schools grows we are keen to ensure that high academic standards are at the core of our work. We want our schools to develop further whilst maintaining their own uniqueness. It is this uniqueness that helps to make the Trust a special place to study and to work. Children are the centre of all our work and we strive to give them the best start in life as this is what they deserve. In order to achieve this, we work in close partnership with our parents and expect them to support us in challenging their children to be the best they can be in every aspect of their lives.

Our Vision and Values

Mission: Empower all children to develop the confidence and perseverance to succeed.

Vision: To embed a structured and progressive approach to learning that puts the development of positive learning attitudes at the heart of a balanced, broad and challenging curriculum.

Rationale: Our curriculum will:

  • Connect every topic to a book in order to expand children’s immersion in language and development of vocabulary
  • Follow a two year rolling cycle to allow staff to specialise and support the planning and delivery of high quality learning opportunities
  • Incorporate curriculum entrance and exit points that provide exciting and inspirational hooks for learning
  • Ensure all children are provided with a breadth of education that aligns with our Curriculum Charter and enriches children’s experiences of life
  • Reflect and record the progress children make as part of a co-constructed learning journey through each cross curricular unit
  • Celebrate and promote the rich cultural and diverse heritage links reflected in the school community
  • Encourage children’s personal, moral and spiritual development alongside their physical and mental well being
  • Support children to be responsible and thoughtful learners who can work productively as part of a team or independently as required
  • Promote opportunities for whole school topical units and cross phase learning that celebrate success and enhance the learning culture and identity of the school
  • Creatively make purposeful connections between areas of learning and ensure opportunities to incorporate core subjects are progressive and routinely harnessed

Ofsted

“Safeguarding is effective. The school ensures that appropriate systems are in place. Pupils feel safe. Pupils’ attitudes to their learning are consistently positive. They conduct themselves well throughout the school day. Year 6 pupils who left in 2016 made good and sometimes accelerated progress in reading, writing and mathematics in key stage 2.”
