Job overview

Are you a creative and highly-motivated Primary teacher with a passion for your profession willing to get in on the ground-floor of a new international school in the beautiful Adriatic country of Montenegro known for its warm climate and people, excellent local cuisine and spectacular scenery?

The British Academy in Podgorica, Montenegro is seeking to employ a number of certified and qualified Primary school teachers to teach a range of subjects (English, Maths, Science, Social Studies, Arts) for students ages 5-11. Applicants MUST have a good level of English (C1 or C2) and be familiar with the Cambridge Primary Curriculum. Teachers need to be experienced and be able to inspire and motivate students to be their best and exceed academically as well as personally as members of the global society.

As an entirely new startup international school located in Podgorica, the capital and largest city of Montenegro, The British Academy is set to open its doors in September, 2024, but we seek to hire teachers by July for an August start with induction and training.

Montenegro is a safe and secure EU candidate country and a member of NATO, with beautiful beaches, mountains and lakes. It is an ideal place for all who enjoy outdoor activities and nature, but also the urban style of life that Podgorica offers. There are numerous old towns and locations under UNESCO heritage protection, but also a number of high-end luxury resorts. Both the seaside and the spectacular mountains are only 1 hour away by car from the capital. Compared with other Mediterranean and Adriatic countries, Montenegro has a very affordable lifestyle, especially in the capital city of Podgorica.

The founders of The British Academy have been in the educational sector for almost 40 years now, have studied/lived/worked abroad and have educated their children abroad and have the right motive, clear vision and great passion for this work. We are sure you will enjoy being a part of our dynamic and creative team.

The ideal candidate should:

·        Have a high level of fluency in English (C1 or C2)

·        Hold a valid passport from the UK, EU, USA, Canada, Australia, or New Zealand

·        Hold a B.A. or M.A. in Primary Education (or relevant field) and have at least 5 years of experience

·        Be fully familiar with the Cambridge Primary Curriculum

·        Be flexible, open to new experiences, innovative and creative

·        Be a team leader as well as a team player

·        Be able to inspire and to implement the mission and the vision of the School

·        Passionate about education

About the school:

The Board of Directors who founded The British Academy are all local Montenegrin leaders within education in the country who have children of their own and have identified the need for a high quality international school with affordable prices and a safe learning environment for children ages 3 – 18 in the capital city of Podgorica and surrounding areas. The idea is to serve both the local and the foreign and ex-pat community in Montenegro by providing residents with the opportunity to study with the approved Cambridge Curriculum at a reasonable cost and to provide a superb and inspiring learning environment where safeguarding and education go hand in hand. We seek to educate the future generation to be successful, well-adapted and productive members of society with a global vision. This is an opportunity for families residing in Montenegro to get a quality British-style education without having to leave the country.

Currently, the school is located on the beautiful premises of a spacious, bright and modern structure with a large outdoor sports and play area. Having already previously served as a private school building, the object is fully equipped with classrooms, common areas, and a cafeteria. It is located in a peaceful neighborhood of Podgorica within easy walking distance of shops, cafes, restaurants and the largest shopping mall of the country. There are ample recreational activities within the capital and easy access to both the Adriatic coast and the mountains of Montenegro, both of which offer even more opportunities for exploration and recreation during weekends and school holidays, as well as for organized school trips.

The British Academy is fully committed to safeguarding and to promoting the welfare of our young pupils and students and expects all employees to share in this commitment. The school offers fully supported safeguarding training and guarantees all staff and our students are treated fairly and without any form of discrimination.

We provide you with:

·        The best local salary based on experience and qualifications

·        Full visa support and assistance with work permit, paperwork, etc.

·        Local health insurance

·        Support and help when it comes to integration in the local community, etc.

If you feel this is the right position for you, don't hesitate to apply now for this opportunity to be one of the founding teachers of our School!
