Job overview

We are looking to appoint a qualified, vibrant and energetic KS1 Teaching Assistant to join the team at our Lower School. This is an exciting opportunity for a suitably qualified candidate to support learning for pupils aged 5 to 7 years old and to assist where required across the Lower School. The role includes supporting learning in the classroom, assisting at Forest School, helping with activities and supporting a very high quality education for our pupils.

The school is looking for candidates with good or developing experience and understanding of working with young children. NVQ Level 3 would be desirable but is not essential, however the successful candidate will be conscientious, considerate and attentive to the needs of our students, have an imaginative nature and a good sense of humour.

This is a fixed term position for the academic year 2022-23.

The hours for this role will be full time during term time with all INSET days only (35 weeks per year).

You will receive a pro-rata salary of between £16,056 to £16,705 per annum (0.77 FTE of NJC pay scale point 8 to 10; £20,852 to 21,695 per annum), depending on skills, experience and qualifications. This will include a holiday allowance based on 25 days per year plus 8 bank holidays pro-rata. Staff benefits include free lunches during term time, free on-site parking and use of the school’s sports facilities.

Colston’s School occupies a glorious thirty-acre campus and has all of its facilities on-site. We are easily accessible from the motorway network, with approximately 800 students aged from 3 to 18. Colston’s staff enjoy small class sizes and the opportunity to deliver a broad and rich curriculum.

Colston’s Lower School, specialising in the care of our younger students, enjoys its own dedicated campus a short walk from the Upper School. The Lower School has undergone considerable investment in recent years; most recently a £1.2 million EYFS Centre, opened in February 2019 by HRH Princess Anne.

We are proud of our high academic standards and our innovative approach to the development of teaching and learning across the school. We value the range of opportunities we provide for our pupils outside the classroom. In our recent ISI report the school was judged excellent in all areas; raw examination results are consistently good, value-add scores are high and we have waiting lists in most year groups.

If you thrive supporting children and feel you could bring energy and enthusiasm to this role, please download an application form by clicking on the ' quick apply' button below.

We reserve the right to invite candidates for interview prior to the closing date where we have sufficient suitable applications. Therefore, we encourage interested applicants to submit an application as soon as possible.

Closing date for applications: Sunday 3rd July.

Interviews are anticipated to take place Wednesday 6th July.

Colston’s is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

Applicants will be required to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

The safeguarding responsibilities of the post include:

- To promote the safeguarding and welfare of children and young persons for whom they are responsible or come into contact with;

- To be supportive of and committed to the School’s policies on Child Protection;

The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the School is therefore permitted to ask job applicants to declare all convictions and cautions (including those which are "spent" unless they are "protected" under the DBS filtering rules) in order to assess their suitability to work with children.
