KS 2 Classroom Teacher: English Specialism: Part time

Required for September 2019 an inspirational part time class teacher with special interest in teaching English to dyslexic pupils. The successful applicant will hold a BDA approved post graduate qualification in teaching pupils with specific learning difficulties, or a specialist teaching qualification of equal standing.

The post offers an exciting opportunity to work in an outstanding specialist school with a proven track record of returning pupils successfully to mainstream education. Ours is a school where your teaching will really make a difference and the feedback at parents' evenings will be exhilarating and rewarding.

The primary teaching responsibility of the successful Applicant will be to teach groups of not more than 8 pupils English, Spelling and Reading. We are looking for a good team player who will relish the opportunity to work with our sub skills staff and speech and language therapists under the direction of our English subject leader. Our teaching approach is to investigate and address the reasons behind our pupils’ difficulties in the classroom, and the successful applicant will wish to broaden their knowledge and skill in this area.

The successful Applicant will be expected to work every school day from 8.30 am – 2.20 pm with primary responsibility for a class as form tutor handing over this responsibility to an experienced colleague at 2.20 each day. In addition we have a significant number of non contact days when teaching staff attend to work with colleagues updating and refining pupil profiles. These non contact days do not erode staff holiday entitlement.

As Form tutor of a class of eight the successful applicant will be responsible for maintaining a supportive, orderly and structured learning environment in which pupils start to take responsibility for their own learning, receive support in improving organisational skills and treat each other with respect. The Form Tutor delivers PSHE under the direction of the PHSE subject leader.

As a Core Subject teacher the applicant will be expected to demonstrate an ability to plan and differentiate lessons to meet each child’s needs including the provision of appropriate challenges. The successful applicant will show they have the ability to earn pupil trust, and evidence that they are a good team player both seeking and giving support to colleagues under the direction of the English Subject Leader.  Our teaching groups are eight pupils or less and English is taught  in the mornings.

Calder House is a coeducational specialist preparatory day school whose pupils all have specific learning difficulties of a Dyslexic, Dyspraxic or Dyscalculic nature. We are rated OUTSTANDING by Ofsted in all categories.

Calder House is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of its pupils. Candidates must be prepared to undergo appropriate child protection screening including checks with past employers and the DBS.
