Westbourne School History

Westbourne School was opened in 1895 at Ebenezer House in Westbourne Road. The present school dates its founding from 1896 when Miss Caroline Ferris became headmistress and named it: 'Westbourne House Preparatory School for Boys'. In 1901 the school moved to 13 Stanwell Road.

The adjoining building, 4 Hickman Road, was purchased in 1975 and the two buildings developed into Westbourne Senior School. Developments since 1975 have seen the school open a college for years 9-11, the acquisition of St. Alma's Girls' school at Victoria Road, after which the school became co-educational. The Victoria Road site now houses Westbourne Nursery and Junior school. Continuing improvements and the broadening of the school curriculum have seen an increase in pupil and staff numbers. Recent re-organisation in the school has led to a unification of identity into one school and the school continues to flourish, building on and adding to the achievements of the past
