Job overview

Horizon School seeks to appoint a KS2 Teacher at our Lower School site in Lowestoft for a September 2024 start.

Horizon School is a two site Pupil Referral Unit (KS1 – KS4 site and Tier 4 In-patient Youth and Adolescent CAMHS) in North Suffolk. Children come to Horizon School for intervention when they require support in managing their behaviour. This can often be at a point of personal crisis or where their underlying needs haven’t yet been identified, which are therefore creating a barrier to them accessing mainstream education.

Role

Teaching a class of 8 KS2 students with a primary need of SEMH. All students at our Lower school come to Horizon School for a 2 term placement whilst being dual registered with their mainstream school. All students have a Personalised Action Plan and a Regulation Support Profile to support the teacher to adapt learning and remove or manage any barriers to learning.

Horizon School Management Committee value the importance of Continuing Professional Development and will support the successful candidate with completing any training necessary to fulfil their role and career development.

We are looking for a Teacher who can:

• be approachable in nature, supportive, understanding and prioritises wellbeing

• inspire, challenge and motivate our children, staff, managers and parents

• have the passion to focus relentlessly on what is best for all of our students and staff, promoting a supportive,

secure and happy environment for all

• be highly aspirational, and lead by example with enthusiasm and creativity, drawing on their own expertise and that of those around them

• passionate about the value of education and need for high quality teaching and learning

• demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills

• embrace and continue the child-focused ethos of our school

• continue to sustain and develop a broad and balanced curriculum that enriches the whole child.

Our current team of staff are highly committed to supporting our students to ensure they get as much as they can out of their education at Horizon School. If you feel you could contribute to the school and join us on our journey, we would welcome a letter of application from you.

This School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

Any offer of employment to this post will be subject to receipt of a satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service and two references.

Visits and informal discussions can be arranged by contacting School Business Manager, Keeley Smart, on 01502 539755.

Application Packs are available by emailing HRadmin@horizonschool.org.uk or contacting the school office on 01502 539755.
