If you are a skilled Primary teacher who is experienced in KS2 and is passionate about working with enthusiastic children, teaching mixed attainment groups and firmly believe in a no ceiling approach towards each individual’s learning then we’d love to hear from you! An eagerness to contribute to the wider life of the College is essential. Please note that we have a very successful middle school model approach to teaching in Years 5 and 6 with teachers specialising in a subject area. Person Specification

The successful candidate will:

● be an inspiring, creative and passionate teacher whose practice is rooted in Quality First Teaching and will share our belief in the importance of supporting and developing the whole child.

● share and demonstrate a belief in the Inspired approach to education where academic performance, sporting opportunities and creative arts are given equal status throughout a child’s school experience.

● have Qualified Teacher Status or equivalent.

● have a strong understanding of how to plan from, teach and assess against the English National Curriculum.

● have experience of successful teaching in KS2 and will be able to demonstrate the value they have added to the outcomes of pupils under their care.

● be able to adapt teaching methods to support and drive the progress of pupils whose first language is not English.

● experience of teaching using Pie Corbett's ‘Talk 4 Writing’ would be desirable but not essential.

● be a dedicated team player, with a “can-do” attitude who contributes positively to the general working environment.

● be a reflective practitioner with a keen interest in their own personal and professional development and enthusiasm for participating in CPD and peer learning opportunities.

● be fluent in English and demonstrate highly articulate spoken, written & technical language.

● share our strong pastoral ethos and be able to demonstrate a commitment to pastoral care and the crucial role all staff play in developing the “whole” child.

● be committed to safeguarding the children in our care by following school policies and procedures

● demonstrate high standards in all aspects of their professional life.

● be excited by the prospect of working for a school judged under the BSO framework to be “outstanding in all areas” and be able to explain what they can bring to that environment.

King's College Alicante is dedicated to providing an education of the highest quality for our students. The school opened in 2001 as part of the British Council and was subsequently taken over by a group of founding parents. King´s Group became involved with the school in 2003 in an advisory and regulatory context, and the school became a full member of the King´s Group in 2010.

The school is three form entry in the Early Years and Primary, moving into Secondary where there are 3 (4 in some year group) form cohorts. The school is very popular and has a growing reputation internationally. The overall roll is close to capacity with waiting lists for several year groups. The NOR is over 1120.

This past 2019, the school was rated "Oustanding" in every category in the BSO Inspection.

School Curriculum

King’s College offers a British curriculum alongside, for Spanish pupils, obligatory parts of the Spanish curriculum. As well as a full range of National Curriculum subjects, pupils from Year 1 also study Spanish Language, with the addition of Valencian, Spanish and Geography from Year 2 until Year 11.

The Early Years Department, consisting of Nursery and Reception, follows the EYFS curriculum. The National Curriculum is taught throughout Key Stages 1, 2 and 3. In Key Stage 4 pupils study for I/GCSEs, and go on to study for A Levels in Years 12 and 13. Those pupils who wish to go on to higher education in Spain follow an additional programme of Complementary Studies in Spanish, to fully prepare them for courses at Spanish universities.

Music, Drama and Dance form an important part of the extra-curricular programme and throughout the school year there are shows, recitals   and concerts. Our Musical Productions are highly acclaimed in the area.

Sports play an integral role at the school and pupils are encouraged to take part in tournaments and local competitive events, in addition to their normal PE classes. Several of our pupils hold ´elite sportsman´status  in a variety of disciplines and some have received full Sports Colours for their achievements.

Our Staff

All National Curriculum teachers at King’s College schools are native British and/or British trained. We hire teachers who are passionate about their subject, who take pleasure in seeing their pupils develop and who are dedicated in their role. We also employ highly qualified native language specialists and a range of Classroom Assistants and Erasmus students.High priority is afforded to keeping teaching staff up to date with UK educational developments, through training sessions, extensive CPD opportunities and an annual Professional Development Conference  .

Our Pupils

Our pupils are expected to work hard, take academia very seriously, and strive for their best results. They are also expected to play a full role in the life of the school available to them, taking advantage of the wide range of activities, particularly in the fields of performing arts and sports.

The school has a thriving and competitive House system, and pupils are encouraged to get involved in the many house competitions during the year, which include academic and sport activities, as well as public performances.

Many pupils travel to school on one of our (award winning) school buses, some have long journeys. This makes it all the more important that we work hard to provide a warm and welcoming environment for our pupils and their families.

Academic Results

At King’s College Alicante, we take pride in all our pupils´ achievements. The end result of what we do in school daily, is to prepare children to become confident and able young adults, most of whom go onto further success at university and in the wider world. Our results at GCSE and A Level are consistently well above UK national standards.

The school has modern, purpose built teaching and recreation facilities, and benefits from pleasant outdoor grounds, including an artificial grass football pitch. There is a separate wing and playground for Early Years, and the Primary and Secondary departments each have their own wings of the main buildings.

As the school is growing in pupil numbers, it is constantly being refurbished. Recent improvements include 10 new classrooms, 6th form study facilities, a multi-purpose hall, an Art studio, a primary library and second music room.

The school is very popular with local Spanish families and has a sizeable minority of other European nationalities including British.

The school is inspected by ISI (independent Schools Inspectorate)  regulated by OFSTED (the Office for Standards in Education) and the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF). By virtue of its full British Inspection and Accreditation (rated ´Excellent in every category´) the Spanish Ministry of Education has authorised King’s College Alicante as a British School in Spain.

The school is an official examination centre for the University of Cambridge International General Certificate of Secondary Education (I.G.C.S.E.) examinations, and for the Edexcel/AQA/Cambridge General Certificate of Education Advanced Level (G.C.E. “A” Level) examinations as well as the regional centre for University of London Post Graduate exam centre.

King’s College Alicante is a member of: COBIS (Council of British International Schools) and NABSS (National Association of British Schools in Spain)

Safeguarding Children

King´s College Alicante  is committed to the safe keeping, protection and nurturing of children, with respect for their wishes and feelings. We will therefore:

  • Establish and maintain an environment where children feel safe and secure,      are encouraged to talk, and are listened to.
  • Ensure adults are appropriately trained in good practice and follow clear guidelines of conduct with children and other adults.
  • Develop our safer recruitment practice in checking the suitability of adults and volunteers to work with children in line with our Safer      Recruitment Policy.
  • Include opportunities in the PSHEEC  curriculum for children to develop the skills they need to recognize and stay safe from abuse, and to understand the appropriate behaviour that relatives, friends, and strangers may demonstrate towards children.

  • Support pupils who have been abused/neglected in accordance with an agreed child protection plan.
  • Enable parents to recognize that the school is a caring establishment where they too can seek support and advice in matters relating to safeguarding children.
