Job overview

Join one of the best schools in the country, where teachers have access to unparalleled development and support at every stage in their careers

Ark Academy is an all-through school in a state-of-the-art building in Wembley, recently rated as one of the top 100 non-selective state schools for value- added KS2-4 in England.  The school opened in 2008 and has grown year on year with each new intake of students and our first cohort of sixth formers started this year.

It’s an exciting time to join us: our staff are striving to create and maintain our outstanding reputation, and our school?is growing year on year. We offer our staff numerous opportunities to advance and learn, including whole school training sessions once a week – led by a member of our SLT and middle leaders and support for teachers seeking their NPQML or in taking part in the “good to outstanding” programme that we run.

When you join us, you’ll also spend more of your time teaching, and less time dealing with behaviour problems. We’re well known for the success of our behaviour policies, which treat student behaviour not as the responsibility of individual teachers, but of the entire school. Students know what is expected of them, and when there is an issue, we have an on-call rota of SLT members to help out.

We are now seeking to appoint a KS2 Teacher (Year 3 or Year 4) who is committed to driving standards and ensuring every child is challenged to achieve their maximum potential. We want a teacher who has the skills and desire to develop and nurture every child in their care. They will deliver consistently good teaching and learning, in order to help all students to achieve excellent academic results. In return, they will work alongside staff who will coach, nurture and lead by example to ensure the best for their team.

The ideal candidate will be:

  • an individual with the commitment to driving standards and ensuring every child is challenged to achieve their maximum potential
  • a teacher with experience of raising attainment of all pupils in a challenging classroom environment
  • a professional who is able to work in partnership with parents and other stakeholders
  • an excellent communicator who enjoys working as part of a team.

We welcome applications from NQTs as well as more experienced teachers.

About Ark Academy

Ark Academy is a mixed, non-selective, non-denominational all-through academy for 3 to 18-year-olds in Wembley, London. It opened its primary school in September 2008 and its secondary school in September 2010. Ark Academy is recently rated as one of the top 100 non-selective state schools in England.

The school motto - ‘Civitas' - is at our core and will be seen everywhere around the school. We pride ourselves for being first and foremost citizens and this is what binds us together. The academy believes in high aspirations, high motivation and high achievement for all. We want our students to grow into rounded, confident, ambitious young people who aspire to high achievement and will make a mark on the world, and our staff to be striving to constantly deliver the best possible education and experience to all our pupils. We provide our staff with the tools and support they need to instil a strong learning culture in their classrooms. We hold staff development of the utmost importance. In order to deliver the best training and network events, we offer twice as many training days as standard.

We maintain a happy, respectful and orderly environment throughout the academy. We believe that we share the responsibility for developing and nurturing the personal qualities of every pupil and we will teach pupils to be responsible for their actions and their effect on others. We emphasise the importance of good behaviour. Our values programme, meal times, manners and behaviour expectations are important parts of our education programme. Good behaviour is praised and unacceptable behaviour dealt with immediately. Children are encouraged to accept responsibility for their actions or behaviour. The Ark Academy Behaviour and Ethos policy creates the conditions for outstanding learning and the encouragement and development of our students into rounded citizens. With 'civitas' - citizenship - the cornerstone of our ethos, our students will be fully aware of their impact on society and potential to be active citizens shaping and leading their community.

Curriculum

Ark Academy has high expectations of all its pupils. We believe every child can realise their potential given the right encouragement, teaching and support. We do everything possible to ensure that every child achieves year level expectations, every year.

English and mathematics are the foundation for all other subjects and are critical to success at school and in life.We focus on developing strong readers and communicators who love to use their skills and children who are confident working with numbers in everyday life. Our curriculum is structured to ensure that all children master essential knowledge in these core subjects. Where pupils need extra support it will be provided to ensure that every child can reach and exceed national standards.

Our driving principles are: Excellence, Citizenship, Participation and Persistence.

Ofsted

In their first full inspection of Ark Academy, Ofsted inspectors have rated the academy as an outstanding school with outstanding capacity for sustained further improvement. Ofsted’s main conclusion was that:

“The new school has quickly established high expectations and secured impressive progress in the short period since opening. Pupils make outstanding progress in their studies. They greatly enjoy coming to school and attendance is high. Pupils behave well and they respond enthusiastically to the growing team of dedicated staff. Relationships between adults and pupils are very positive and help to promote above average attainment.”
