Job overview

KS2 Teacher with potential Phase Leader (Yr 5 & 6) Responsibility

January 2020

Royal Russell School educates over 1000 girls and boys between the ages of 3 and 18 and is situated on a beautiful green campus of 110 acres in the Shirley Hills near Croydon, only 30 minutes from Central London.  We have over 150 boarding students in the Senior School, and are proud of our day and boarding facilities that rank amongst the best in the South of England. Our pupils, parents and staff experience a warm and friendly environment with strong pastoral care for every pupil alongside a comprehensive co-curricular and enrichment programme. In March 2016 the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) judged the school as ‘excellent’ in all areas and in October 2018 we successfully passed a full unannounced ISI compliance inspection.

An opportunity has arisen for an excellent KS2 teacher with the confidence and ability to teach in Year 5 or 6 to join this progressive and welcoming team. There is also the potential for the candidate, with the appropriate experience, enthusiasm and leadership qualities, to take on the role of Yr 5 & 6 Phase Leader, taking a lead in supporting and developing this exciting phase.

The Class Teacher role will suit either a new or experienced teacher looking to develop their pedagogy in a supportive environment. We are looking for an outstanding role model for our pupils and someone who will take pride in being part of our fantastic community.

The Year 5 & 6 Phase Leader role will suit a teacher who is looking for the next step in their career or someone who relishes the challenge of leading others and developing an exciting area in an excellent school. The ability to be strategic, personable and collaborative is essential.

Job descriptions of both roles are attached. The Phase Leader responsibilities are in addition to the Class Teacher role and attract a salary allowance. Candidates may apply for either the Class Teacher role or the Class Teacher with Phase Leader responsibility role. The vacancy is from the start of the Spring Term 2020 although the school is willing to wait for an exceptional candidate. A willingness to contribute to the extra-curricular programme and support the pastoral life of our school is essential.

Royal Russell offers excellent benefits including a competitive salary on our own salary scale with scope for progression, an outstanding working environment in our beautiful green parkland estate with easy access to transport links, and being part of the vibrant and supportive community of the historic Royal Russell School. We offer free car parking, free meals, a discount on School fees and the use of our sporting and gym facilities. Full details of our staff benefits and recruitment procedures can be found on our School recruitment page at https://www.royalrussell.co.uk//vacancies

A fully completed application form which includes a supporting statement outlining the extent to which you meet our requirements as set out in the person specification, and details of two referees, one of which should be a current or most recent employer should be emailed to hr@royalrussell.co.uk. References may be taken up before interview.

Applications will be considered on receipt and should arrive no later than 12 noon on Monday 30 September 2019. Interviews are expected to take place the week beginning 7 October 2019. We reserve the right to interview at any point during the recruitment process so early applications are encouraged.

The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and all appointments are subject to a satisfactory enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check (including a check against the Children’s Barred List), and other pre-employment screening including a check on the Secretary of State list of prohibited staff.
